Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 25: The rescheduled Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) board exams began in Mangaluru and Udupi on Thursday June 25.

As many as 30,835 students will write the SSLC examination in the Mangaluru. There are 95 examination centres. Over 300 students from Kerala will appear for the exam and around 1,318 students who are studying in Dakshina Kannada have opted to write the exam in other district examination centre. Arrangements were made to ferry students coming from Kerala. As many as 142 students came from Kerala. Buses were arranged which dropped students to examination centres. Also, 632 thermal scanners are installed for use at examination centres in Mangaluru.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu P Rupesh visited examination centre in Ramakrishna High School at Bunts hostel and took a look at the arrangements.

Speaking to media, she said, "Over 30,000 students are appearing for SSLC examinations. We have looked into all kind of arrangements made at the examination centres. As many as 367 students have arrived from Kasargod. We will make sure that the students will return back safely to their hometown. None of the students are absent from Kasargod.”

All the centres have been properly sanitized and setup according to the regulations of the state government. Nearly 14,039 students are writing exams in Udupi district.

"We have continuously given training to the staff since one month to conduct these six days’ exams without any issues. Maintaining social distance is given utmost importance. Every student is given sanitizer and thermal scanning is done by scouts and guides students and health workers. As many as 599 students of Udupi are appearing for the exams in outside districts. If Covid symptoms are found in any of the students, they will writing exams separately in a single rooms," said Preethi Gehlot, CEO, zilla panchayat.

Certain measures have been taken the smooth functioning of the SSLC exam during this corona outbreak. Examination centres have been sanitized, and social distancing norms are being followed. Students are required to wear masks during the exams. The state scouts and guides were seen distributing two masks to every student at the school entrance to wear one before entering the exam centre and keep the other as a spare. Every exam centre have also been equipped with sanitizer dispensers to wash hands before and after the exam.
