Mumbai, Jun 12: Janet Mascarenhas, a young BPO employee, residing at Kurla in Mumbai, had many dreams and ambitions for herself and her family. She wanted to work, and lead a peaceful happy family life. Sadly, luck was not in her favour when she had to undergo a medical check-up for skin allergy. What was least expected, her reports showed she is suffering from acute promyelocytic leukemia, a type of blood cancer.
Repeated medical check-ups were conducted and confirmed that she has blood cancer which has entered the 4th stage. She was suggested immediate chemotherapy and her husband, Alwyn Menezes, is racing against time to save his wife.
Presently, Janet is admitted at Holy Spirit Hospital, Andheri, Mumbai. The doctor has prescribed continuous chemotherapy for 45 days, and she has finished nearly 30 days’ treatment. The cost of chemotherapy and other charges of Rs 12, 00,000 have to be met. Alwyn works in a call centre earning a small salary and due to the lockdown, there is little hope of job security. He has been serving his ailing wife round the clock as no one else in the family is able to attend her. At the same time, he has the responsibility to take care of his parents who are sick and living along with him. Due to the lockdown, travel has become almost impossible in Mumbai and finding a substitute to attend her is difficult in this situation.
“I do not have any other source of income. Everything I had in the form of savings has been spent for Janet’s initial medical expenses. Now I do not have a single penny in my pocket. If I fail to complete the chemotherapy suggested by the doctors, I will lose Janet forever. I need my wife and want to see a ray of hope on her face.
