Mangaluru: Jeppu Patna coronavirus-positive patient's travel history sends officials into tizzy

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 18: The youth diagnosed with coronavirus infection, identified as P-1094, who belongs to Jeppu Patna in the outskirts of the city, had reached here ten days ago. He had in fact begun his journey by foot from New Delhi. He had travelled by various vehicles on the way and finally reached home by hoodwinking the staff at several check posts.

His parents had refused to allow him to enter the house. He was sent away, duly asking him to get COVID test done before returning home. The youth, who was staying alone at his grandparents’ home near his parental home since the last ten days, finally got himself tested in a private hospital at Deralakatte under pressure from family. The report received yesterday confirmed that he is coronavirus-positive.

The youth was in Dubai. Before the lockdown was clamped, he had returned to Delhi and stayed in his own flat.

The infected person had already moved around various places including Bantwal during the ten of his stay alone. He had travelled by different auto-rickshaws and visited a few relatives, it is said. This has given rise to an air of apprehension all over the district and the officials are at a loss how to draw up his travel history.

Sources said that the man's marriage was fixed and for that purpose he had tried hard to reach here.

If not for the virus scare, this man would have been a hero as he managed to travel all the way from Delhi during lockdown. If he could pen down how he did, it would be a best selling novel. He would have come across so many experiences, hoodwinked many check posts, spent sleepless nights, gone hungry only to get united with his fiancee. I hope he hasn't infected anyone including his grandparents. How did his parents allow him to stay with his grandparents instead of with them? The grandparents are more at risk!

Stop making him a scapegoat. Majority of of Covid19 patients become non infectious after 14days of regression of symptoms. Lockdown started in March and he had to return from Dubai prior to that. This is second second of May now! If he has tested positive now by PCR test. chances are that he got the disease during his travel in India. India should not deny community transmission and start testing more people. Earlier the better. Accept the reality!

    Rohan,
Latest news is from tomorrow all public transport, salons etc will remain open!
Who is going to enforce the 30 passenger rule on each stop?
Is it possible to maintain 6 ft distance in a dingy overspeeding bus where passengers literally touch each other while boarding & alighting?

Actually both salons & public transport can be really potential hotspots for CORONA! How will a client know whether the barber/conductor is CORONA -ve, his instruments/brush/blades/tissues do not carry "fomites" (as virus droplets can sustain on objects for long, especially metal & pass on touch infection to client) to get instant infection?
With such potential hotspots open, what is the benefit from lockdown?

The cases are less in DK. Test, trace & isolate should be the only game in town. And

yes, people should resume their lives with all the necessary precautions.

If the lockdown continues for too long, covid19 will be the least of our problems.
