Mangaluru: Jeppu Patna declared containment zone following coronavirus case

Mangaluru, May 17: Following the confirmation of coronavirus case from Jeppu Patna in Jeppinamogaru here on Sunday May 17, the district administration has declared the area as containment zone.

A 31-year-old male resident of Jeppu Patna tested positive on Sunday. He had developed symptoms, after which he got himself tested. The source of his infection is yet to be traced. However, sources said that he has travel history to Delhi.

Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Sunday declared the area surrounding the patient's residence as containment zone. The entire area has been sealed down.

The zone encompasses 48 houses, two shops and a school, and there are 205 residents. An area of 5 km radius around the containment zone has been designated as buffer zone.

Executive engineer-3 of Mangaluru City Corporation has been appointed as incident officer in charge of the zone.

On Sunday, a woman from Yeyyadi who returned to Mangaluru from Mumbai on May 14 also tested positive. However, Yeyyadi has not been declared as a containment zone as the woman was taken directly to quarantine centre as soon she arrived.

This is the ninth containment zone in Dakshina Kannada. The others are Pilar in Someshwar, Narikombu, Bantwal Kasba, First Neuro hospital in Padil, Kakkebettu in Shaktinagar, Boloor, Guddekoppa in Suratkal and Uppinangady.
