Mangaluru: ‘Railway services will be arranged for migrant workers in DK’ – MP Nalin

Mangaluru, May 8: “The central government has agreed to arrange railway services for stranded migrant workers in Dakshina Kannada (DK) to return to their home states,” said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

A meeting regarding the same was held on Friday, May 8, under the chairmanship of district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "I have spoken to the union railway minister Suresh Angadi and the government has agreed to arrange railway services for stranded migrant workers. But the respective states where the migrant workers are travelling to, should approve as well.”

He also directed the officials to prepare a travel agenda after conducting a thorough discussion with the state government relating to the plight of the migrant workers.

Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Sindhu B Rupesh said, "Under Seva Sindhu, over 20,000 migrant workers have registered in which 5,000 are from Jharkhand, 3,000 from Uttar Pradesh and 4,000 from Bihar."

District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said, "Regarding the arrangement of railway services for migrant workers, the union government has already discussed the matter with the chief secretary and chief minister. We have requested for 20 trains to ferry the migrant workers of Dakshina Kannada."

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, police commissioner Dr P S Harsha and others were present.

The district in-charge minister also warned vendors from selling liquor at exorbitant prices. He stressed that there would be strict action against such sellers. "People have been complaining about liquor being sold at high prices, and this is not acceptable," he said.

The minister also added that the excise department officials have been directed to keep an eye on liquor outlets and cancel the licenses of all those who sell alcohol at sky-high prices.

    Talk talk talk and do nothing. What about that huge crowd stranded right near the railway station since months ? There should be a limit to inefficiency. Ours is the only country in the world where there is a so called democratic elected government , but poor humans are suffering like animals.

    Before passing the information, please make it sure that no other orders will ne issued like sudden lockdown, train cancellation etc. Kindly consider Migrant worker’s are also humans and somebody is waiting for them in their village. The Central government need to play simillar politics as played in case of NRIs.
