Mangaluru: Gaur which spread panic in city passes away

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangalur, May 6: The gaur that all of a sudden had made an appearance at Mannagudda in the heart of the city on Tuesday morning and had given rise to panic among the people residing in that part of the city breathed its last all of a sudden on Tuesday evening.

After the animal was sighted, forest department had, with the support of police department, succeeded in tranquillising and taking the animal under control. However, in the evening, the animal in question was taken to Charmadi and released into the forest but the gaur did not survive.

Sensing that trying to catch the animal in the populous areas of the city was a daunting task fraught with risks, the forest department had sought the assistance of experts in that field. The animal, which had become unconscious after being injected with tranquillisers, was taken away and released into the forest at Charmadi in the Western Ghats.

The veterinarians confirmed that the gaur lost its life due to heart attack. It is believed that the dosage of the tranquillisers injected into the animal's body would have been more than the actual dosage required because of the anxiety of the officials in rescuing the animal that was on the run.

Poor baffelo what is its fault, our corporation must have some basic facility to catch wild animals ,what there must be a doctor who can prescribe to dosage, not municipality worker can decide,

    Dear Bison,

These humans joined together and murdered you in cold blood...the Vet who injected you tranquilizer...did he calculated correct dose....did he tried to revive the animal ???...Who was that moron who was covering the mouth of the animal with a sack....he must be summarily executed for his foolishness...

These moron people think...whole world is for them only...they own it all ....other animals have no place in this planet...

Even after COVID-19...still they have not learnt any lessons...

RIP Bison...I am sure even in your next birth, you don't want to be born as HUMAN...All are 'Dagalbajis' from top to bottom....

We lost a chance to have a rare animal in our sanctuary. We brought 2 gaur from other sanctuary for our zoo, If we could have kept in isolation and looked after it would have benefited. Now we have lost the animal is a sad part.

I agree officials had to take care of dosage of tranquilizer, but same time i think they had time to react as it was in city limits. Imagine this bull going head-on with bike rider, car or pedestrian will they survive? If it was in rural area / paddy field then they had time to at least measure and shoot. What say...

Jacintha, sorry but what you mean by over reacting? The beast shouldn't be killed but tranquilised in first place. Then it should have been monitored before releasing to it's natural habitat. Now, it was tranquilised with over dose, released to it's natural habitat with hurry after all photoshoping. Who is responsible for the death of this beast? Imagine if one of your relative is given overdose anesthetic before a minor surgery and they died just because of the overdose would you just say, what is the big deal?

When humanbeings are assaulted or killed there are no proper investigations so murders come out on bail easily. When a defenseless animal is killed who will pin the guilty. Some activist should write to Menaka Gandhi and all those present at the spot should be thoroughly interrogated ,so that a similar incident does not occur.
BTW if it was left alone it would have returned to the forest without human intervention.

This death of the healthy Gaur, is due to incompetence, callousness, by forest officials, who administered a massive dose of tranquilizer, to knockout the animal.... The result has been a massive cardiac arrest....

Sad. Why the forest officials in a hurry to shift him to forest. ?? Could have treated him here and shifted. Forest department is not to save animals and forest. Are to swallow. If you shift animals from their habitat to another they will not adjust immediately. They will be easy prey other animal's.

Carelessness on the part of the officials. The person who authorized the decision to tranquilize the animal has to be dealt with sternly. This is murder.

100% agreed with Chetan. Overdosing is a gross criminal mistake. The person who used the tranquillisers obviously is a qualified Vet. if this is done by a Medical Doctor, will it go unpunished (might go in present India)? Life is life and he should be dealt according to law. Suppose if that animal was a Cow, what Bhakths, our MLAs, MPs and Sanyasis example, Kulla sanyasi) and Sadhwis (example, cancer cured by gomuthra) could have done?

Seriously a shame on us as a society. I have observed that last few times any wild animal that strays into the city is not been sent back alive. Be it a bison or a leapord - the way some people throw stones at it, there is no sensitive approach by human beings who unfortunately consider themselves as the superior on this planet. Lessons have not been learnt and it's a collective failure of us as a society.

Any animal which is darted with tranquilizer needs to be revived within an hour with reverse injection.
It should have been kept in a secure enclosure & should have been monitored for a day or 2,
If the above are not followed & a traumatic journey to ghat itself was wrong decision as it proved fatal. Inexperience & not proper training has caused this unnecessary death.

The beast was darted with a 45 Min. tranquilliser. By the time the crane arrived and the beast was moved into the truck half an hour had gone by.

The process of reviving a darted animal has to be done by a trained personnel,

Mouth of the animal has to be opened and the tongue has to be pulled out or else it may loose out on breath. This should be complemented with an IV line of electrolyte.

In one of the videos that we got, some were trying to close his face with a sack below eyes when loading... May be without knowing this fact that you mentioned.... But I thought that moment how it will breathe? When they removed the sack we don't know.. Forest personnel, tranquillising dept should know all this basic steps.. But what's the necessity to cover with sack once it's unconscious.... 😥

Tulu People Love other languages than anybody else in India, that is why lots of non-Tuluvas settled in Tulunaad also Tulunaad is in Two states ...Tuluvas are the most accommodating people

We love Konkani more than you love Tulu... you can ask your ancestors if in doubt

it's just that don't change the names of original places because that has some meaning for us not for non-Tuluvas and when it pronounced wrong it hurts us not others...

What is wrong in Keeping original names instead of some name which has no meaning......
