Mangaluru/Udupi, May 4: The twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Monday, May 4, witnessed many people queuing up at wine shops to purchase alcohol bottles after the state government allowed liquor stores to open in the state. The shops were shut as part of the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

In some places in the districts, people had reportedly began queuing up in the night itself.

Many thronged liquor outlets since Monday morning as wine shops in the city opened after being closed for over a month. On Saturday, the state excise department issued an order allowing wine shops to remain open from May 4 between 9 am and 7 pm.

The order also urged the staff members of the wine shops to ensure social distancing between customers and to strictly follow directives issued by the authorities. The order also urged wine shops to provide hand sanitisers to customers and staff while handling the bottles and cash.

The Prime Minister Modi's BJP's Central government and state is smart. They want people to booze so that once they drunk they will not question the failure of the government or even lock-down.

This shows the government priorities are not health care system, eradicating unemployment, providing PDS to the lower class and so on but 'Alcohol' and it revenue.

Social Distance and and wearing mask not required for people visiting liquor shops. sanitizer also not required as liquor smell kills the corona virus. Now people are happy. They do not mind standing in hot sun for hours and hours. Now, introduce the promotion scheme like pay for one and get one free.

Sorry to see this... Ladies also for them or for other family members !!! I can't understand why media is highlighting much about this ?

Veerendra Heggade and many other dignitaries on the other hand urge state and centre to ban alcohol completely. They cite the noble reduction of accidents, crimes etc because of total stop. They also highlight that there is no health issues because of that.

Do anybody think that they are advising for personal gain ?

I request media that if you want to report these things then don't report crimes or accidents due to Alcohol. Let accidents happen. Media should have responsibility.

The study conducted by them surveyed only the locals who were non drinkers. Do you have any concern for people with withdrawal symptoms? Moreover prohibition will only increase smuggling. In the past weeks, so many bootleggers have been caught. Does this seem like a reduction of crime?

You are finding excuses to continue business. You are associated with in one or the other way of that trade.

Any new word like "withdrawal" can be created to make it a big problem. The reality is a strong lobby behind it who know the easy way of money making through it.

Drunkards are a nuisance in society. They abuse children and ladies. They spoil the hard earned money by the family members. Do you have any concern about it ? Prove that the majority of crimes are not associated with drinks. I have no arguments then.

If anybody want to lead a lavish and easy life by selling liquor at the cost of others life, then let them think about jump to Netravati.. Many people did that recently...

I'll prove it then. In the past weeks of alcohol prohibition, the number of cases of domestic violence has skyrocketed because husbands are beating their wives as they are deprived of their daily drink. I really doubt the intellect of a person who thinks withdrawal is a big word. If you think lobbying is working now, oil companies would have forced thw government to start flights and public transport. Everything is not a conspiracy my friend. Here's the evidence to my claim. I'll tell you what logic it is. Only if the government gets revenue, it can give stimulus packages so that these industries come back on track. If people don't spend, govt gets no revenue and other industries cannot be revived. Karnataka contributes among the highest taxes to the central govt and a major share of it comes from alcohol whether you like it or not. Our tax money goes to states like up bihar.
