Bantwal, Apr 19: With lockdown being strictly imposed in the district, excise officials are busy cracking down on people preparing illicit liquor in their premises.

Excise officials on Saturday April 18 confiscated fermented jaggery mixture and arrested two people from the house of Norbert D'Souza (Nobby), owner of Summer Wines located at Farangipet in the taluk.

Acting upon definite information, the excise officials raided the house of Norbert D'Souza at Kodman Kodi of the taluk and confiscated 1,200 litres of jaggery mixture, 950 kg of jaggery, 500 litres of spurious wine, 300 litres of potato-jaggery mixture and equipment used to prepare illicit liquor at home.

The officials also arrested Christan D'Souza, son of a lady lecturer of a private aided college, and one more person. The owner of the property Norbert D'Souza is absconding.

The raid was conducted under the direction of joint commissioner of excise Shailaja Kote of Mangaluru division by the team led by excise superintendent Vinod Kumar and Bantwal deputy superintendent Geetha and other personnel.
