Bengaluru: Yediyurappa's Muslim-appeasing stance attracts war of words

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 8: The social media was plush with opinions for and against chief minister (CM), B S Yediyurappa, for the pro-Muslim stand he took relating to disinformation campaign related to coronavirus operation. Tweet wars and hashtags were aplenty.

The CM had said that steps would be taken against those indulging in malicious campaign against minority Muslim community relating to coronavirus issue. A number of people expressed their ire against the CM for this statement.

Some used #WeLostHopeBSY hashtag to pour out their frustration and anger in social media against Yediyurappa. At the same time, a particular class of people from the society supported him under #WeStandWithBSY.

Interestingly, most of those who criticized Yediyurappa were supporters of BJP, RSS and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. On the other hand, those who have been traditionally known to oppose the BJP, RSS and the Prime Minister, came in support of Yediyurappa on Tuesday. Several BJP supporters who put their weight behind #WeLostHopeBSY which began at 1.20 am, sought to replace Karnataka chief minister. Many of the tweets were directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union minister, Amit Shah. By 10 am, however, tweets in support of Yediyurappa began to appear.
