Bengaluru, Apr 7: Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa, taking umbrage at the increasing practice of pointing fingers at the Muslim community without any basis for the spread of coronavirus, has warned of strict action against people indulging in such things.

During the interview with private television channel about steps taken by his government to tackle coronavirus pandemic that has posed a serious threat to the state and the country, Yediyurappa revealed that he had discussed the matter with minority Muslim MLAs and leaders for over an hour, adding that these leaders had promised to help him to sort out this issue.

Yediyurappa stated that during the meeting held at his home office Krishna, Muslim leaders had promised him that they will not hold namaz at the mosques henceforth.

A few questions were raised to the chief minister about some people who got infected with the disease at the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin, Delhi, and then refused to cooperate with the doctors, and also cases where assaults had taken place. The chief minister said that in the case of assault on doctor, steps have been taken against the accused. He pointed out that these are stray cases and holding the entire community responsible is not justified. He repeated his warning to take stern action against anyone indulging in loose talk against the community without basis, irrespective of the concerned party or political affiliation.
