Gujarat to be self-reliant to fight Covid-19

Gandhinagar, Apr 6 (IANS): The Gujarat government on Monday announced that it is confident on readying itself for being self-reliant to fight the battle against the Covid-19 threat. The officials expressed that the state is fully ready to fight against any dire situation with 'Make in Gujarat' health care products.

Informing the media on Monday, Ashwini Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), said, "After the successful launching and testing of the 'Make in Gujarat' product 'Dhaman-1' a ventilator for Covid-19 patients, Gujarat manufacturers are once again ready to provide the much needed personal protection equipment (PPE) kits and N95 masks, which are urgently needed for the prevention of the dreaded disease."

"After the test run of the first ventilator from Gujarat, developed by Rajkot firm CNC Jyoti, it is right now in real use for a Covid-19 patient and is running smoothly," said Kumar.

"But for the prevention of Covid-19, PPE kits and N95 Masks are imperative to use, especially for the medical professionals who are treating the coronavirus patients. To ensure that the state of Gujarat stays Covid-19 free, Arvind Mills Limited, Santej and SureSafety, Vadodara, have started manufacturing such PPE kits," added Kumar.

"Besides PPE kits, there is a huge demand for N95 masks. To fulfill that demand in the state, Celluse Products, Changodar, has started preparing such masks with the technology obtained from IIT Kanpur. They will be providing around 25,000 masks per day to the Gujarat government," he added.

Apart from that, under the guidance of the Gujarat Chief Minister, four specially dedicated Covid-19 hospitals are ready in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat, equipped with a total of 2200 wards with isolation wards and 10 per cent of these wards equipped with ventilators, Kumar informed.
