Bagalkot, Apr 6: On account of people who participated in a programme organized by Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in Delhi, coronavirus is fast proliferating in the country. This has given rise to a sense of dismay and anger among the general public, not only on account of the fact that coronavirus risk has turned grave, but also with the knowledge that participants of the said religious convention have not been very cooperative in tackling the disease.

A crowd attacked three Muslim men at Bidari village in Mudhol taluk, Bagalkot district. The three men belong to Mahalingapura village in Rabakavi-Banahatti taluk. It is said that they were stopped on the road and attacked with sticks. The attackers accused them of being responsible for the spread of coronavirus infection and questioned them about the purpose of visiting their village. They also derided the trio with filthy words, it is said.

After the three men requested to be set free and promised not to visit the village of the attackers again, the villagers allowed them to go with a warning not to return. This incident happened within the limits of Mudhol police station.

Reports say that coronavirus has claimed lives of 27 persons during the last 24 hours and the number of coronavirus-related deaths has crossed a hundred. On Sunday, 12 more deaths have happened. The total coronavirus-affected persons in the country has crossed 4000 mark. The number of coronavirus-infected persons has risen to around 4,000 now from 2,000 as on April 1. Participants of Tablighi Jamaat programme have been the main contributors to this sudden spurt and they account for 30 percent of cases. If the disease spreads at this speed, the country may witness doubling of the cases in just seven days, experts believe.
