Mangaluru, Feb 28: Road transport meeting was held at deputy commissioner’s office on Thursday, February 27 which was chaired by deputy commissioner (DC) Sindhu P Rupesh. Orders were passed enhancing minimum auto rickshaw fare in the city to Rs 30. This revision will be in effect from April 1.

Minimum fare for the first 1.5 km has been fixed at Rs 30. For every km thereafter, meter fare would be Rs 15. Waiting charge for first 15 minute would be free, while for the next 15 minutes, Rs 5 will have to be paid. Luggage charges would be free for the first 20 kg, whereas Rs 5 per kg for every additional luggage weighing more than 20 kilograms. For the period between 10 pm and 5 am, auto rickshaws can charge one and half times the fare.

Auto-rickshaw drivers and owners placed several demands before district road transport authority pertaining to problems faced by them like designated place to park, ban bike taxi and others. They said that auto-rickshaw drivers are in deep trouble after bike taxis were given licence to operate. Bike taxi has been banned in Udupi but no action has been taken so far in Mangaluru, they said.

An RTO official in reply said, “Bike taxis are allowed by the government and this is considered as a business. It is banned in Udupi. In Mangaluru, corporation has the provision to ban bike taxis, but not RTO.”

The auto driver and owners demanded RTO meeting to be conducted every three months. The deputy commissioner assured to do so.

Mangaluru RTO officer Ramakrishna Rai, Puttur RTO officer K Ananda Gowda, ASP Vikram V Amate and ACP Traffic Manjunath Shetty and others were present.

The problem with auto and taxi operators are that of 'plenty' We have number of autos and taxi more than required. So, auto and taxis do not get sufficient trip to sustain. Only solution is Municipal corporation should conduct a proper study and give licence only for restricted number.

I suggest - the Mangaluru RTO and Auto Drivers must visit Mumbai and learn a lot from our RTO and Auto drivers.

    Starting fare Auto : Rs.18.00
BEST fare min brought down from Rs.8 to 5 and now we get AC buses for Rs.6 to cover nearly 2 Kms of distance.

If Mumbai can do it, why not Mangaluru. There is something wrong in the planning. The Government should increase city buses and people should use these services for lesser price. Mangaluru is hoping to be a smart city; i do not think it can achieve that tag.

Let us try to understand our auto drivers. No doubt their many of the drivers behaviour is arrogant. But most of them are good and hard working for their family. There are auto drivers age more than 65 also working honestly for their daily bread. A cleaning lady charges minimum Rs. 100 for less than 30 minutes work. A electrician/plumber charges 200+ for 30-45 min work. I don't think auto driver earns Rs. 100 per hour after deduction of fuel cost and also auto maintenance cost. Let us understand this. As far as I know since last 4 years auto minimum charges are 25. Don't they deserve slight extra considering present inflation? According to me they should get at least Rs. 1000 per day 8-10 hours work

Despite the revised fares, their behaviour of arrogance and rudeness will see no change. Barring a few auto drivers, most are very badly behaved.

The price increase from Rs.25.- minimum fare to Rs.30.- from April 1, 2020 will be a blessing
to all passengers who have to be at the mercy of most of the cheating Rickshaw drivers.

Just last week, I hailed a Rickshaw Regn No.KA-20-C-3529 from Go Gas Station in Bannanje
to Thimmappa Fish Restaurant in Adi Udupi, and this Rickshaw had no Meter. When asked,
the driver informed me that it has been given for re-caliberation of the new fare Rs.30.-. He
charged me Rs.30.- to which I told him - For Rs.5.- do not take the blessings away from God
who is watching everything - I guess he did not understand how one attains God's blessings.
Such are the cheats in Udupi - they even dare tell you to go and complain to the Police!

    Joseph F Gonsalves sir,
Petrol rates have come down ,I agree with you sir . But what about spare parts, Insurance Policy premiums, day to day households commodities rates, finally poor maintenance of roads. So the expenses have automatically gone up. We can not see only Petrol rates. We have to see from all angles.

    Dear G R PRABHUJI, Mangalore,

How expenses are going up when the BJP government boosts itself has done good economy. Today in Daijiworld news Union Ministers say I quote: How has economy failed when hotels are full: Union Minister. Unquote. Which means every thing is good enough.

The BJP government has failed miserably.
In demonetisation almost all small scale industries were closed.
    BSNL is loss
HAL personnel didn't get salaries due to which they desided to sit in striking.
    Jet Airways closed.
    Banks are running under Loss.
RBI money was drwan by the government.
15% LIC money to be utilised.
Remember your LIC premium will go life less.
    FDI never rolled in.
No encouragement to Agriculturists, animal husbandry etc., etc...

The government is indulged in purchasing MLA in our tax payment.
    No Jobs to the Youths.

OVERALL THIS IS A ILLITERATE GOVERNMENT.
ECONOMY IS CONTINEOUSLY IN COMA SINCE 2014
THERE ARE NO LEARNED ECONOMIST TO LOOK INTO THE ECONOMY.

When prices are raising in every items, I think if Auto Rickshaw rates increase is OK.

But my point is Administration and RTO must control their behavior first. They don't go to all the places.

They refuse to wait when the agreement says that 15 minutes free. They refuse to wait for one minute also. If advantage they get, they agree for some route otherwise they refuse. If we tell about rules they talk rudely. They forget they are Ambassadors of City.

Yes....certain areas they never come however great difficulty you are in. They will say.... either road block, to come back there's no passenger. Funniest thing is if a first person in the queue disagrees to come, majority rest the drivers behind them say "no" that too "dont care" nod.

Devere..... Henceforth let's walk.. Walk... Walk... Walk and walk... If tired walk with Zumba and aerobics...

Everything happens for our good, from the point of view of our health. Our auto drivers demand more 10/20 rupees extra. If we ask them to take little inside (sub roads) from the main road, they start grumbling. Within ten seconds they will ask.. still how far?

if we say it's little ahead.. first only you could not say where you have to go? You are saying to the auto drivers which area is called what? (if they know every road why they irritate us yelli yelli). Even after saying them we will give extra, they take extra money but don't bring us to our destination.

If they see little mud road and if he is hyper some say we will leave auto here only... I don't need auto...and they literally get down..

Late evenings they want one and half rates...after 9 pm. how much they demand don't know. Some are really good people and we don't mind paying more.. Let's be positive and walk

Mumbai, bus fare auto fare much cheaper....half of the rates there what we pay here... Anyone can survive there...

even if the rainfall was less last year, MMC distributed water equally through out the year. Isn't it Jossey Sir??

Now only we don't get proper water since two weeks though there's sufficient water in the lake.. .On inquiry they say, gate valve has broken and they don't lift the phone.. Those who have wells they don't speak.. To repair one gate valve it requires more than two weeks?? They leave fine water for 15 minutes... once or twice a day without pressure.

When this is implemented in manipal richshaws does not have any meters, hire charges are very high they watch you and charge rules and regulations are made by drivers not by govts,

night charges are doubled same for private Buses no tickets are issued, different charges for different people, no proper bus stops just raise your hand bus stops, change is the biggest problem which the conductors take the passengers for a ride wake up DC
