Mangaluru: SJEC hosts first edition of TEDxSJEC with fascinating 'corridors of love'

Mangaluru, Feb 16: It was a confluence of hearts and minds at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor here, as the first edition of TEDxSJEC was inaugurated at SJEC premises on Sunday February 16.

Director St Joseph Enginnering College Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza inaugurated the event. The speakers and the performers joined hands with Fr Wilfred D'Souza, Fr Rohith D'Costa and Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, assistant directors, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, Rakesh Lobo, HR manager of the college in lighting of the lamp.

Speakers of TEDxSJEC planted saplings as part of the Go Green Initiative of SJEC. This was followed by the dignitaries taking a walk through the 'Corridors of Love', a unique attempt by the students displaying creative installations of exhibits symbolizing the theme of the event 'Love Conquers All'. The 'Corridors of Love' led everyone to the venue where a series of talks and performances awaited the participants. The corridor exhibited various themes such as the Nirbhaya case, tribute to comedians and more.

Principal of St Joseph Engineering College Dr Rio D Souza welcomed the gathering and Evita D'Silva compered the programme.

SJEC assistant director Fr Rohit D Costa, TEDxSJEC coordinators Crystal D'Souza, Vernon Serrao, Dr Binu K G and others were present.

During the event, the following speakers addressed the gathering with their life experiences and intellectual insights:

• Aarohi Pandit, world record holding Indian pilot
• Corrine Antoinette Rasquinha, social worker and founder of White Doves NGO
• Girish Bharadwaj, Padma Shri awardee, engineer and social innovator
• Omkar Pai, engineer and nature enthusiast
• Vaishak J P, mountaineer
• Dr Smitha Hedge, teacher and scientist
• Abhiraj Rajadhyaksha and Niyati Mavinkurve, chief storytellers at Following Love/Travel Writer and Author
• Ria Sharma, model, speaker, storyteller and an LGBTQAI and youth activist

Apart from the speakers, the following performances won the hearts of all participants:

• Vidwan Deepak Kumar and Vidushi Preethikala, Bharathanatyam artistes
• Vidushi Mahima S Rao, Yakshagana artiste
• Prithesh Bhandari and team, theatre artiste and film maker
• Gladson Peter, One Man Band

TEDxSJEC was aimed at bringing people together and inspire them to collaborate and think about the larger picture, igniting a spark of love in them.
