Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann presents MCC Bank Ltd 'SOAD - 5' Mangoa - Auditions begin from Feb 16

Mangaluru, Feb 13: Everyone knows that music is there in every atom of nature and earth. The ears, which are capable of hearing, can feel music even in silence. Medically it is proven that music heals many diseases as well as releases the pressures of everyday life.

Mandd Sobhann, in association with goanworld.com Goa, supported by Daijiworld 24x7 and GCTV Goa and Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa, will be presenting MCC Bank Ltd 'Soad-5' Mangoa, television singing reality show. Daijiworld will provide technical support, shooting, editing and telecasting while GCTV Goa will telecast the episodes.

The show, aimed at encouraging and fostering young, budding singers and provide them a big stage to show their talent, to take Konkani singing to greater heights and build bridges between Mangaluru and Goa, will be seeking to find really good talents, toppers among whom will be crowned 'Ranni Kogull' and 'Ray Kogull'.

The contest is open for people from any religion, language or dialect, aged between 15 and 40 years. Mangaluru auditions will be held on Sunday February 16, 2020 at Kalaangann at 9 am. Udupi auditions will take place at Hotel Durga International near city bus stand at 9 am on February 23. All other rounds will be held at Kalaangann. Goa auditions are scheduled to be held at Art and Culture Hall, Panjim at 9 am on March 1. Audition round and next (preliminary round) will be shot in Goa and all other rounds will be shot at Kalaangann, Mangaluru.

Those who get selected in the auditions will be given various trainings and made ready for he next eight phases.

Winners of the contest will get 'Ranni Kogul' and 'Ray Kogull' titles along with Rs 50,000 cash prize and other gifts. The winners will be appointed as Konkani youth ambassadors. Top ten contestants will receive Rs 10,000 each. There will be eight rounds starting with auditions. Contestants entering top 10 rounds will perform live for the audience at Kalaangann.

In Mangaluru, a huge response by the young generation for this event is already received. Those who would like to participate may register their names, with name, address and date of birth, by calling 8105226626 for Mangaluru and Udupi centers and 9637421532 or 9822480102 for Goa auditions.

All episodes including auditions will be telecast on Daijiworld TV and GCTV Goa.

History of Mandd Sobhann

The contribution of Mandd Sobhann, which came into existence in 1986, to the Konkani art and culture, is immense. The organization has got the title of 'Protector of Konkani Culture' due to the various experiments that were done by it in order to preserve and rear the Konkani language and culture. Mandd Sobhann is known all over the world among the Konkani community for flying the flag of Konkani language and culture to the sky and making the Konkani speaking people feel proud about their language and culture.

Mandd Sobhann is trying to attract the younger generation towards the Konkani language and culture through various programmes, trainings and seminars and 'Soad' is one of them.

'Soad'- Journey from beginning till now

Soad - 1: The event was organized for the first time in 2005. 137 youth (boys and girls) participated. Amabelle Moras emerged as ‘Ranni Kogull’ and Amith Menezes as ‘Rai Kogull’. Shama, an Urdu-speaking girl, was the first runner-up.

Soad - 2: As many as 143 youths participated in this edition, which was organized in 2008. Lavita Lobo was crowned as ‘Ranni Kogull’ and Chandrahas Ullal, a Tulu-speaking non Konkani person, was declared as ‘Rai Kogull’.

Soad - 3: International - This edition was organized in 2011 and was shot in three places of Mangaluru, Goa and Qatar. The Finals were held at Doha Qatar. Queenie Fernandes and Akash Telgu, both from Goa, emerged as winners.

Soad - 4: This edition was held in 2014 and ran into 83 episodes lasting 10 months. Robin Sequeira and Jacqueline Fernandes emerged as winners.

Soad - 5: Preparations are on for the fifth edition to be conducted in Mangaluru (Feb 16), Udupi (Feb 23) and Goa (Mar 1).

'Soad', has been successful in making popular Konkani music of various regions, dialects, genres, composers, musicians, singers and improving the youth’s knowledge of Konkani music.
