Bantwal: Illegal sand mining on Phalguni river - Boats, trucks, dodger seized

Bantwal, Feb 12: The police and officers of Mines and Geology department seized 11 boats, six trucks and a dodger that were involved in illegal sand mining in the basin of River Phalguni at Kariyangala in the taluk on Wednesday, February 12.

As per officials, sand mining tender was allotted to a person in Badagabellur but that person was mining in Kariyangala. Officials further said since place of sand mining had road connectivity issues, sand was bought to Kariyangala to load onto to trucks. The person responsible had not taken prior approval regarding the same.

During the raid, labourers escaped leaving behind boats, trucks and a dodger. Tahashildar Rashmi told that the equipments left behind have been seized by Mining department and further investigations are underway.
