Sullia: Cylinder blast - House in Gundia goes up in flames

Sullia, Feb 11: In an incident which happened in the evening of Monday February 10 at Gundia in Aletty village in the taluk, a house was gutted due to gas cylinder blast. The ill-fated house belonged to Krishna.

As no family member was inside the house at the time, no injuries or deaths occurred.

The family had left for Sullia to attend a programme when the blast happened. At about 4 pm, smoke began to billow out of the tiled house of Krishna. Within a few minutes, a huge sound of explosion was heard following which flames appeared, eyewitnesses said.

Items inside the house were charred in the fire. The walls and roof crashed and the entire house was heavily damaged. Loss due to this fire has been put at several lacs of rupees. The family members were informed but they were yet to reach their home till dusk. Locals said that the flames leapt out of the house to the height of the nearby coconut tree. Reasons for the incident could not be ascertained immediately.

Sullia fire brigade personnel helped in dousing the flames. The firemen also could not immediately establish the cause of fire.
