Mangaluru International Airport being developed at a cost of Rs 252.71 crore

Bengaluru, Feb 5: Airport Authority of India has taken up development and expansion of the Mangaluru International Airport at a cost of Rs 252.71 crore.

The proposed expansion of the Mangaluru International Airport will also include installation of two aerobridges.

In a written reply to a question by BJP RajyaSabha member K C Ramamurthy in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation said the development and expansion of the airport is expected to be completed by December 2020.

He said the work was delayed due to extended monsoon in the year 2017 and early monsoon in 2018 and 2019 and also because of drainage beyond airport boundary wall and revision in design of reinforced earth wall due to deep seepage and slope failure.

    Why dont they start direct flights to Singapore or Malaysia or Hong kong from Mangalore?

    Many Mangaloreans live in Singapore , Hongkong , Australia and New zealand ; So these flights will be both useful and full . At-least a flight to Singapore would be really nice.

    Hi guys I notice some people comment about arrival area and escalator to basement, this is presisely what AAI is changing..
    Highlights of the project:-
    -New arrival Hall in basement section
    -2 new baggage reclaim belts
    -2 new aerobridges
    -2 new aircraft parking stands
    -dedicated departure in upper floor
    -dedicated arrival in lower floor
    - additional 500passengers per hour handling capacity
    - larger domestic and international departures
    - one way use of over bridge for departures
    - adani is going to pay AAI it's share of revenue for the amount spent on the infra works
    - Mangalore is in need of the additional extension to facilitate seemless travel
    - Max capacity of the airport crossed in 2015.. so expansion is long due
    - Mangalore has more potential than kannur if all facilities are in place.
    - parallel taxiway work is also going to complete after which wait times for aircraft for take off and landing will ease

    Please have visit on Kannur airport . Mangalore airport lost the charm entirely.
    Every thing is placed so well . Mangalore doesn’t even close to any International Airport. Firstly Passengers are welcomed in Kerala when they come from international. Whereas Mangalore airport treats the passengers as thieves with Gold carrying with them. Duty free of Mangalore is like Roadside Tabella . Kanur gave all airline advice its Base for operating international and domestic airline providing free parking space and free landing charges. No airline is interested in Mangalore. All development we saw after Adani came is Toilets are refurbished same size toilet with sparkling light and Toilet no other development as such which I feel even Director of Airport Authority of Mangalore could have taken if he hadn’t taken those granites to his house. Now that Adani has taken enjoy excess Airport Development Charges which we paying only for sparkling toilets.

    Dear friends staff at the duty free are foreign exchange experts much smarter than IMF experts.
    they do the day light robbery partially light because Kuwait flight arrives in the evening their calculation is One Kuwaiti Dinar is equal to 200 rupees only.
    Most of the time their point of sale machine is not working, and the official language of duty free as well as Mangalore airport is Malayalam.

    Recently a friend of mine and I were looking around at the construction of the airport terminal and we could see steel, steel and steel everywhere, as if the builders got all that steel free of charge. I am not an expert in construction, but felt that too much steel has been wasted in building the terminal.

    why there are no permission for direct flight Riyadh KSA to Manglore?. The recent airport Kannur has got direct fight and most of the Indian cities have direct flight from Riyadh. Some one please look into.

    Please install a free moving escalator from arrival area to the basement parking. Replace the current steps into escalator. This is more important than any other work

    Whts the point in expanding when flights don't opt to land in Mangalore..
    Instead kannur is providing low tax for airline. So many fights don't come.. Why not reduce the tax and invite more airline.. We have MRPL for fuel. Other states give at lesser price. We always pay more.
    Simple.. Reduce the airline tax and fuel price for Mangalore.. Everything will we alright.

    Why they are spending such a huge amount for this project?
    If they allow all flights such as Oman air Emirates gulf air Qatar airways and many budget airlines it is ok I believe
    Air India showing its own importance there not allowing any countries airline
    Since jet airways closed they increased their fair!
    This year I came vacation in January I looked for a ticket to Mangalore It was KD 130
    Then I searched for Oman air to Bangalore I got the ticket for KD 66
    From Bangalore I came by bus!
    I request the concerned authorities before upgrading give permission to other airlines,

    Studt: Narita..japan.
    Heathrow. Dxb Intl. Swiss.. Changi Airport.
    The runways..
    The Airport Buildings...
    Custom/Immigration/ Carasoul should all be swift..clean.. and professional..
    all:
    Make Bajpe airport city. like Changi...singapore.
    Tourism Police and Tourism Cell for info and Guidance.
    Chiller stores... duty-free...
    shopping mall..
    Clinic.
    Lab...
    Restaurant...
    ATM/Exchange centers.
    OLA/UBER.
    Food court ..etc.
    Hangars
    Maintainance hangars.
    Everything should be Professional...
    Staff with Clean Uniforms.
    customer friendly..
    Need:
    Metro and Rail connectivity.to hinterlands..
    Shuttle service.
    set up great Soft/Hard landscape to beautify surrounding and entrance.
    make it lively..

    Abdulla, don't give more ideas yaa... Now only estimated cost is around 253 crores....if they construct airport according to your plans where's the money to do other developments in the state/ country for ordinary people like us??? If the majority of the funds if you want government to spend on airports for fewer people what will be the facilities for people who do not even can't afford to peep in side the airport... Look at our foot paths? Our govt hospitals in villages, our roads etc etc etc etc

    from kannur Airport.
    Last week i travelled from kannur Airport.
    Tiecket fair is very less compare to Mangalore.

    Taxi fare from udupi /mangalore to kannur airport? Time consumption is more to kannur... Please make use of our bajpe airport.... Once upon a time people used it. Now don't abandon...

    They can take time to develope as many years as they want.Services at airport has gone to dogs.Hardly any passangers.When there is delay and want to have some food or drink only one shop is there .choice is not there.one has to pay hooping price..(The shop after finishing our customs.)Better also is not before.No wonder people choose other airport.Proper connections to international airports too is the need of the hour.

    This is the trick.Use tax payers money through AAI and spend tons of money,and put it on plate and give to private companies to operate. They will lease out ever corner of airport space to private vendors and the airport will become like a shopping mall for arriving and departure passengers. Nobody talking about extending runway to land the 380 airbus so flights like Qatar and Emirates can operate direct.

    Adding just aerobridges wont solve the problem. The international arrival area is so congested you are even made to wait on the stairs while clearing the customs. The luggage receiving area also gets crowded due to improper planning in the design. Overall the airport area should be expanded and make way for new air carriers.
