Dubai: Dr Venkatesh Murthy chosen for ‘Dhwani Sriranga’ International Award

Dubai, Jan 14: Dr H S Venkatesh Murthy has been chosen for Dhwani Prathishtana’s ‘Dhwani Sriranga’ International Kannada Theatre Award for 2019. The award presented in memory of legendary modern Kannada dramatist Shri Adya Rangacharya (Sriranga).

The award carries a citation, travelling and hotel stay allowance in Dubai for three days and purse of Rs 25,000. He will be the eleventh recipient of this award since its inception in the year 2007.

Dr H S Venkatesha Murthy popularly known as HSV, is a leading luminary among the present-day Kannada poets and playwrights. He was born in a remote village Hodigere of Channagiri Taluk Davanagere district. Dr HSV had his schooling at his native village and later studied in Holalkere followed by collegiate training at Chitradurga. He did his masters in Kannada at Central College Bengaluru. He worked as lecturer and professor for more than three decades in St Joseph's College of Commerce, Bengaluru, and settled in Bengaluru after retirement. He got his doctorate in literature for his research on
Kannadadalli Kathana Kavanagalu.

‘Dhwani Sriranga’ award will be presented to him during the celebration of 35th anniversary of Dhwani Pratishthana at Emirates Theatre, Dubai on February 14. On the occasion Girish Karnad’s ‘Maduveya Album’ Kannada play directed by Prakash Rao Payyar will be staged by Dhwani artistes, as part of Ranga Siri Utsava-2020. Event will be presented by Maestro Events LLC.
