Mangaluru, Dec 31: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel lost his cool in the meeting that was held with the officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Navyug company, which has the contract for building the flyover at Pumpwell.

Nalin was upset over the fact that Navyug company has requested for a new deadline of January 31 for the completion of the Pumpwell flyover work. A fuming Nalin said to the officials, "As an MP I have given all the possible help from my end. But you have not completed the work of the flyover. Close the toll gate till the flyover is completed. If you ask money, I will sit on fast.

"Five deadlines have been given so far for the completion of the flyover work. But the work is still pending. Give me in writing the date on which you are going to complete the work. If you do not adhere to your deadline, I will take legal action. As many as 500 meetings have been already held in one year.

"You people asked to slap you with sandals if you do not complete the work. Now you have not finished the work. FIR is registered on the officials of Navyug company. Let the police arrest the senior officials of Navyug company,” he said.

The officials of NHAI and Navyug gave in writing the information regarding Pumpwell flyover completion to Nalin after listening to his strict warning.

First and foremost please check whom this contracting company belongs too and then decide if it can be dragged to courts for its inability to complete. This bridge is the talk of the town now. A mockery of some sorts.

When he has become the butt of jokes for quite some time regarding the Pumpwell flyover, it is natural for the MP to lose his cool. After all, how long can he tolerate the humiliation - though it is the result of his own inaction for the past ten years! However, this action of his can be taken with a pinch of salt because, if he is serious about the completion of the flyover, why doesn't he take legal action against Navayuga? Isn't there a provision in the law? Post January 31, there will be another meeting, Navayuga will ask for another extension, the MP will lose his cool again, and the vicious cycle will continue.

    Dear readers kindly note the following;
    1. Pumpwell flyover height is only 4.5 meters. The correct height should be 5.5 meters as per civil construction rules.
    2. To cover the mistakes they have decided to dig the road down to adjust the height. This will cause major irregularities in the future.
    3. Even the flyover is completed it'll be a failure for the long run.

Now you all decide who's responsible for this. Who should take the accountability. If there was a Congress MP in power what BJP would have said?????

Mangalore to Beltangadi Road, though work in progress till Punjalkatte, the stretch from Punjalkatte to Ujire is more worst nightmare to the motorists in comparison to the former.

We often see pleasing statements from Nalin Kumar (MP) about 4 laning of Guruvayankere to Ujire etc, and wish this will not be like our infamous Pumpwell project.

There needs determination and effort full dispensation and not mere paper statements. Else, there will be another tag to MP as “4lane ... “ like “pump-well ...” 😃

They can't even complete a simple flyover almost taking 8 yrs , Moodbidri - Mangalore highway may take 20 yrs in my guess as many shops & road side private property needs to be removed for widening.

People from Dakishna kannada are generally considered to be better educated and are able to understand better, unfortunately most of the readers know only to condemn and critize the MP without understanding the cause of the delay in completion of this particular fly over. Secondly unless this MP had not done his basic homework like helping the people specially in rural and interior Dakishna Kannada, he would not have been reelected. Mangalore constituency p are not dumb to cast their vote, look into the past history they threw out Poojary and Dhanjaya kumar. No point blaming an MP for the deplorable state of city roads. It is not his responsibility..It is the corporation and state government which has to take responsibility.

Sorry... BJP supporters openly said that they have no choice but vote for BJP and they are doing it looking at Mr. Modi, not the MP

"It is the corporation and state government which has to take responsibility"
Pardon me ??? Aren't you aware that the roads come under two categories (1) State Highway (2) National Highway ? Since when is Pumpwell road under State Highways ?

NHAI and Navyug officials ask for some extra time and the flyover will be completed by Jan 31 there is no mention of the year. If it is promised by NHAI and Navyug that the flyover will be completed by Jan 31st 2020 and the MP trusts them and the MP conveys this the Mangaloreans and says that the flyover will be ready on 31st Jan 2020 are the people fools like the elected leader.
