Indonesia to send 3 athletes to 2020 Olympic Games

Jakarta, Dec 30 (IANS): The Indonesian Athletics Association (IAA) has planned to send at least three athletes to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, the association's training manager Mustara Musa said on Monday.

Sprinter Lalu Muhammad Zohri, 20, has already got the ticket to the international sporting event after posting the third place in the men's 100-meter event during the 2019 Golden Grand Prix Osaka with a time of 10.03 seconds, Musa noted, reports Xinhua news agency.

"We are giving the opportunities to two other athletes," he said, adding that they are Sapwaturahman Sanapiah for the men's long jump event, and Emilia Nova for the women's 100 meter hurdle event.

Both of them defended their top positions during the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines, and Sapwaturahman had even broken a record by jumping 8.03 meters, according to him.

Therefore, the IAA would give them the opportunities to undergo qualifications for the Olympics, encouraging them to improve their own records, he said.

"We support them to improve their achievements and capabilities," Musa remarked.

Emilia, the manager said, will undergo exercises at a training camp in the United States where many of the world's top runners in the hurdle event are practicing.
