Dammam: Man from Kundapur in trouble for blasphemous Facebook post on Mecca

Daijiworld Media Network - Dammam

Dammam, Dec 22: A man from Kundapur working in Dammam, Saudi Arabia is reportedly in trouble for uploading a blasphemous and provocative post on Facebook.

Harish Bangera from Kundapur, working as an air-conditioning technician for a company in Dammam, on Saturday December 21 uploaded a blasphemous post about the Kaaba in Mecca, the holy site for Muslims across the world.

The post received hundreds of comments and shares, with many criticising Harish.

The post reportedly also came to the attention of Saudi authorities, and according to posts on Facebook going viral, the police in Dammam have already arrested him within an hour after the complaint was made.

Harish's employers too reportedly took action and terminated him from the job with immediate effect. A post going viral on Facebook reads: "We Gulf Carton Factory Co. want to have your attention for what happened, in relation to unethical posts, posted by Mr. Harish Bangera from his personal Facebook account. It was unacceptable and we have immediately terminated Mr. Harish Bagera form his duties and company contract. We condemn such activities extremely and have reported this case to Police, Ministry of labour & Saudi authorities for their further action. We assure everyone that we have zero tolerance for such acts (sic)." The message is purportedly written by Meshari AM Al Jabr of Gulf Carton Factory Co where Harish was said to be employed.

Meanwhile, a video going viral shows Harish pleading for forgiveness from Muslims over the post. In the video, he says, "I have committed a mistake. Please forgive me. I will never upload any such posts again. I faced lots of problems before I came here (Dammam). I ask Muslim brothers to forgive me this time. I am facing problem from my company. Please forgive me." It is not certain when the video was created.

The incident is a grave reminder to Indians staying in Gulf and Middle East countries against uploading any blasphemous or objectionable posts and pictures online, especially relating to religious beliefs. Cyber rules are very strict and the authorities are known to take immediate and stringent action against anyone posting inflammatory comments on social media.

Internet and social media are tools for benefit of humanity. However, it is a double edge sword and is creating strife across the globe.
Harish being an AC Technician appears to be not mature enough to realize what he is sharing.
And the truth is that a large percentage of forwarded messages are hoax or derogatory to some or other religion or personality.
My sympathy with family members of Harish who will suffer due to his stupidity.
Many people advise that when you are in Middle East follow the law of land. I say that wherever you may be staying, please don't share posts that create rift in the society.

If you go through his FB post then you can understand what are the things he posted. I also feel sad about this but he insulted our holy place of makkha. No muslim will tolerate this.

After what happened in manglore last week, many of RSS mindset people sitting in GCC Countries supported the killings of 2 innocent muslilms.

Many of them cought and sent to police in GCC Countries. Now they have to suffer. NO BJP, RSS, RS,BD will come to save them. Thanks

The first thing we should teach our children is that there are different types of faith and ours is not greater than others but equal. We should respect others beliefs also.
If we continue to tell our children that our religion is the greatest, they tend to jeer at other religion and religious practices when they grow up.

The employer or the Saudi government should send his family his monthly salary on humanitarian basis. His presence was not needed in the family as he was working abroad any way. The accused need to be firm in his belief and fervent in expressing it and not to be a coward in saying he is now sorry. The one who suffers because of his conviction is a martyr and not the one who kills others or harms others in any way. If he is jailed for the offense that was his choice and not an accident. If he did not get his lessons well in school, in jail he will.

Dude, do u understand the concept of " Freedom " Here in my nation, you have the liberty to pelt stones, burn public properties, abuse our culture and civilization !!!!!! These privileges, are not granted, in any medieval, Islamic nations, on this planet !!!!

If he has apologised, and he said he will not do it anymore then the matter should be settled.

This is the litmus test to see if he will be forgiven, released from detention, and reinstated at his workplace, after all Islam is religion of peace.

We all make mistakes, and we all seek and ask for other peoples forgiveness from others. There is NO ONE in this world who does not make mistakes and seeks fogivenss. If you insist on punishing people every time they make mistakes without any forgivness, there will be a lot of bitterness in the world.

If you think others will follow, that's possible, but then please be ready to forgive them too. I've always heard my many Muslim friends tell me "Islam is a religion of peace", Isn't it time to live it?

Our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ was scrouged, mercilessly beaten and cruified on the cross, yet even when he was dying his last words were "Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing".

When the two robbers who were crucified besides him, one repented for his sins and Jesus forgave him of all hiss sins and said to him "Today, you will be with me in paradise"

My earnest appeal to all people of peace is to appeal to the Saudi government and ask for full clemency, and for his employers reinstate him.

LET THERE BE PEACE IN THE WORLD, AND LET IT BEGIN WITH ME.

1 Samuel 15: 3 Now go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.’”
He could have forgiven Amalek ?

Don, I totally understand what you're trying to say. But a small mistakes can be forgiven, can be settled. If you see what he has posted in Facebook then nobody will forgive him, most of the people asked him to remove the post about Mecca and King for his own good.

But he refused to do that. Later when photos went viral then he realized that his job and life is at risk. So he made a video were you can see him apologizing.

Few months back a Saudi Journalist Jamal Kashoggi who criticized Saudi King Mohammed Salman, he was brutally murdered by Saudi Officials in Turkey. They don't spare their own people just think about this guy.

So I request people from any religion, please don't get into any trouble when you work in Gulf countries, because you don't have freedom of speech there. Gulf countries are Monarchy not democracy. Please make good use of Social media while in Arab country. Peace !!

@ Don 3, Rape cases can be settled MUTUALLY, For hurting religious sentiments let the Saudi government take its own time and action.

He has committed a crime. While other countries might look on blasphemy with scorn, this is because freedom of religion and religious (or anti-religious) expression is a something granted or tolerated by those countries.

Saudi Arabia is a country where this is an exception. It is a country founded on a religion, and that means that there are strict laws against blaspheming - blasphemy against the religion is blasphemy against the religious country, which leaves you liable to punishment by law.

They didn't pardon their own Journalist who criticized King Salman, will they do when he called King as DOG?

will they do when he posted Mecca Photo stating that RAM mandir will be built here with support of Modi? One has to leave stupidity in the place where it is allowed.
