Mangaluru, Dec 22: Former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy arrived here on Sunday December 22, three days after violent protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act rocked the city, claiming two lives in police firing.
After arriving at Mangaluru International Airport, Kumaraswamy made his way to Kudroli where he is visiting the family of Nausheen who was killed in the police firing. He then visited the family of Jaleel, the other person who died during the protest.
The former CM met the family members and expressed his condolences. On behalf of JD(S), he handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lac to each of the families.
He also visited Highland hospital where those injured in the protest, including former mayor Ashraf, have been admitted.
Soon after, Kumaraswamy tweeted a video of his meeting with the family of Nausheen, and urged the state government to investigate the incident in a transparent manner.
Kumaraswamy is expected to address a press meet later in the morning.
He was accompanied by B M Farooq and other JD(S) leaders.
It may be mentioned here that for the past couple of days, a string of politicians are making a beeline for the city in the wake of the violent protests. Chief minister B S Yediyurappa visited the city on Saturday December 21 to assess the law and order situation, and along with MP Shobha Karandlaje, met the families of Nausheen and Jaleel.
