Udupi, Dec 18: The third additional civil judge and JMFC court Udupi has ordered police to file an FIR against Joel Mathias, resident of Kuthyar and Flavia Mathias, resident of Pilar, for defaming Mudarangadi gram panchayat president David D’Souza on social media platforms.

Shirva police have registered FIR (1519/2019) under Information Technology Act against the duo and also carrying out an investigation in the case.

In his complaint, GP president David D'Souza, a local businessman and Congress party leader, alleged that Joel Mathias and Flavia Mathias have tarnished his and his son Doyson D’Souza’s image, by commenting their names to the suicide case of Fr Mahesh D’Souza, principal of Don Bosco English medium school Shirva.

The complaint copy mentioned that since the incident of the alleged suicide of Fr Mahesh, the both accused were continuously spreading rumours and false allegations about David and his son. The rumours were spread to such extent that they were labelled as rowdy sheeters and were arrested by the police in Fr Mahesh death case.

"Due to the false allegations and rumours in social media, it has severely affected my personal life and has made it hard for me to move in the society. This has defamed my image," David prayed to the court in his statement.

He also said that the accused being an active social activist, the said rumours from him, damaged his status in the society.

The complaint further stated that earlier too Joel Mathias was involved in spreading false rumours against David and the accused had apologised at the police station for his mistakes. But taking the opportunity, after the death of Fr Mahesh, he continued to spread rumours about him.

Speaking to Daijiworld, David D’Souza said, “I have been serving people of Mudarangadi through the capacity of president of gram panchayat. I am doing my best to the capacity and reaching out to the needy. But these false allegations have hurt me and my family and I seek proper punishment to the accused.

"Also, there are a few other people who are engaged in tarnishing my image with false posts on Facebook and WhatsApp. Once I gather proof, I am going to file more complaints in the coming days," he said.
