Puttur-born Dr Annapoorna Kini chosen for 'Gifted Educator' award in USA

Puttur, Dec 18: Dr Annapoorna Kini, who was educated in Puttur and Maniplal, and who is counted among a few highly rated interventional cardiologists in USA and has won a number of awards for her mastery over safe surgeries, has been chosen for the USA's Gifted Educator award for the year 2020.

American College of Cardiology has chosen Dr Kini for the award considering her excellent service to the field of cardiac surgery, clinical cardiology and lectures.

Dr Kini is currently director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Mt Sinai, USA. She has been serving as specialist cardiologist in USA since the last two decades. Last year, she had been honoured with the ‘Heart of Gold' award by American Heart Association. She had got 'Medal of Honour' of Ellis Island on May 13, 2017. She is one of the 350 most safe heart operators in New York and counted as one among a few top cardiologists who can conduct interventional heart operations with least risk. She also is credited to be the only lady doctor in USA to conduct 1,000 coronary interventions in a year.

Dr Annapoorna Kini is from Bolwar, Puttur. She is the second among the three children of Namadev Prabhu and Pushpalatha couple, and currently settled in New York.

After getting education at St Victor's Girls School Puttur and PU education through Vivekananda College, she completed MBBS degree through KMC in 1991 with gold medal. She completed MRCP at London and joined Mt Sinai School of Medicine as cardiologist.

    Dr. Annapoorna Kini is well known, well famed Cardiologist, Director of Cardiac Catheterization division at top American hospital, Mount Sinai hospital, in Manhattan , prime New York City. I had trips to her hospital unit this summer. Well earned reputation , recognition. Congratulations Dr. Kini.

    Thank God, if she was in India, she would be labeled as anti-national if her education did not defend blind beliefs and class system. We would never think of giving any award to foreigners fearing that they are enemies of India.
    Ironically, we send Indians to enemy countries, specially to Europe, America, Canada and Australia. These western educated come back to India and influence our pure Indian customs. Our MP meets large number of them on his innumerable foreign trips. Irony or contradiction?

    Those who bring laurells to their home land were all got their good education & noble civility/wisdom/secular thinking/tolerance etc., were achieved during post independence ruling under the able governance of Congi & its allies ...,
