Udupi, Dec 16: The very name of national highway of 169A between Udupi and Manipal has become unpleasant for commuters who use this stretch of road. On one side of the road there is mud that is put after digging pits. On the other hand are the vehicles that travel at breakneck speed. As the sun rises, the whole environment becomes dusty.

Due to unscientific ups and downs of the road, many motorists are facing trouble while driving on this stretch of the road. Every day minor accidents take place. If any vehicle breaks down, then the whole road gets affected with traffic jam as there is no service road.

As the road nears DC office, there is the issue of traffic congestion of vehicles approaching the DC office and the auto-rickshaw stand that is nearby, make the situation worse. Near Inox, due to the digging of road on both sides, it is difficult for people to commute.

There is a proposal of building one more railway bridge near Indrali on the highway. The NHAI is waiting for the approval of the railway department. The administration is saying that the work of the bridge will start as soon as the railway department gives the go ahead. As NHAI has removed the bus stops in order to carry out highway work, commuters have to wait for buses in the dusty environment.

Only if the administration takes step to sprinkle water at definite intervals throughout the day, the commuters using this road will have some relief. Traffic police are having a tough time to control the traffic standing under hostile conditions. Uday, an auto-rickshaw driver told Daijiworld that he also joins hands with the police when he does not have passengers.

Last month a private person filled some potholes from his own money.

Now forget about road development. As per reports central Govt. doesn't have any budget remained for road development. Govt treasuries all empty and only used for statues and election propaganda. That is the reason Govt is helpless and all necessary commodities prices going on increasing. Enjoy the BJP rule

All these problems and road condition is due to Nehru, Gandhi and Congress. Present government at the state and center has got nothing to do with it. Nehru should have fixed this problem prior to 1964.

here most of the people blaming contractor, politician, govt officials. but the real fact is that wherever the land was handed over to this project the contractor has completed the road work. but it is kept pending in only those place where the handover of land is either delayed or land owner denied. mainly in 3 place land dispute arised which is parkala, MIT to manipal busstand & near syndicate circle. that is the reason road works are pending here. however now the contractor get the greensignal & work is going on in full swing. so blame game is not good each & everything.

Udupi to Manipal road has International significance, as students from more than 75 countries study in these twin cities. From last 40 years little progress has been made to maintain this road, commute is difficult along this route. Realizing it's failure, the government may nominate an established, reliable private contractors to maintain this road.

All it takes is one or two of these international students to have a bad accident for the authorities to wake up as pressure then gets mounted from the top ...indian life is cheap unlike citizens of western countries so contractors take it easy

We are not bothered as we believe in our chaiwala PM. He has asked him to give at least 60 years as we have given 70 years to Congress.

As such NHAI, under the central goberment is doing excellent job. Shiradi ghat, Charmadi ghat and pumpwell flyovers are the examples for the wonderful, out of the world work done by NHAI.

We are happy with removal of article 370, resolving Ram Janmbhoomi issue, introduction of NRC and CAB, balakot stirke etc etc.

    Jai Ho.

Unfortunately the contractor takes it for granted that he can dig and break anything on existing road with the excuse of executing the contract, be it concreting, road widening, or any other construction. The system of assigning responsibility of arranging smooth flow of traffic during construction period as part of contractors responsibility is not being practiced in India.

In all developed countries, before commencing any such work, the contractor has to arrange alternative roads, bypass including footpaths. Without this being verified, he does not have the permission to commence work.

Heavy penalty is imposed on contractor if he causes disturbance to existing traffic, causes dust, does not clear debris, stores materials on main roads, etc. When will this come into force in India?

Talking about 5 trillion economy, swatch bharat, made in India etc. without these basic civic sense is of no use.
New projects are being discussed in Mangalore city. Is there any measure to see that Pumpwell Flyover situation does not repeat??
