New Delhi, Dec 15: Former finance and external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha on Sunday December 15 condemned the ruling BJP for extending National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah’s detention by another three months.
Terming Modi as 'Man whO Destroyed India', and Abdullah 'more of a nationalist than the PM', Sinha took to Twitter to express his disappointment.
The detention of Farooq Abdullah, a three-term chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, was extended on December 14 by three months. According to officials, he would continue to remain at his residence that has been declared a sub-jail.
Abdullah has been under detention since August 5 when the Centre abrogated special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state.
The stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) was first slapped against him on September 17. This happened hours before the Supreme Court was to hear a petition by MDMK leader Vaiko who had claimed that Abdullah was detained illegally. Under the Public Safety Act, one can be kept inside the jail from three to six months without a trial.
When the opposition asked the Centre during the Parliament winter session on ‘when the politicos would be released' Shah said, "We don’t want to keep them (J&K leaders) even a day extra in jail. When the administration thinks it’s right time, political leaders will be released."
He also took a dig at Congress highlighting that Sheikh Abdullah, father of Farooq Abdullah, was kept in jail for 11 years by the Congress.
