Bengaluru: Increase in atrocities - State home department to train women on self-defense

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Dec 8: Karnataka state home minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the home department has decided to train women in the state on the skills of self-defense in the wake of the increase in incidents of atrocities against women throughout the country.

Bommai spoke to the media persons after holding a meeting with the senior police officers and officials of the law department on the safety of women in the state and said that it is decided to offer self-defense training to women from the home department in order to instill self confidence in them.

“‘Suraksha App’ for safety of women has been released in Bengaluru. This will be extended throughout the state. In addition, the technology of the App will be upgraded so that the response time for distress calls will be five to seven minutes instead of the nine minutes that is followed at present," said the home minister.

Giving more details on the subject, Bommai said, "So far 5,764 cases of atrocities against women are recorded in the state between 2015 and 2019. Out of these, chargesheet is submitted in 4,904 cases. In 563 cases, chargesheet is not filed due to various reasons. FSL (Forensic Science Lab) report is yet to be received in 329 cases.”

"Rape on women from lower strata of the society has increased in the state. More incidents of rapes take place in the areas inhabited by labourers. In addition, sexual harassment on children is also increasing. In order to prevent criminal activities in the state, thought is given to increase the Hoysala patrol vehicles in the state to 500. Discussion in this regard is held with the chief minister. Action will be taken to install GPS system for police vehicles on night patrol,” he informed.

"There are 22 temporary and 12 permanent police training centers in the state. In all these centers women and girl students of college will be given training on self-defense. Opportunities will be created for women to take this training through self-inspiration,” he added.

"POCSO cases are being registered throughout the state. However, deliver of justice is getting delayed. So a discussion is held in this regard with the officials of the law department and the number of POCSO courts will be increased in every district to ensure that the inquiry is conducted in a speedy manner and verdict is given within short period,” he said.

"Incidents of crime are increasing due to the drug mafia. Orders are issued to the police officers to reduce this by taking stringent action. Foreign nationals, who are overstaying their visa, are being sent back to their respective countries. A refugee center to hold the illegal migrants of other countries will begin on January 1, 2020 at Nelamangala.” Bommai said.

Training in self defence is a good thing but don’t tell us that it’s a solution to save yourself from four men or people attempting to attack you as a gang , really?

4-5 men against a woman , it’s not a movie !!!! You will have to train them to be a jet lee , and what if they are carrying knives to stab you first , I mean knowing what has happened, is this the main solution?

Shouldn’t it be the law and police force?.A strict law with fast hearing and strict punishment, A police force that is reliable and doesn’t make excuses to register complaints and take it forward.

At a household level people not just producing 6-7 children with no money to feed and leaving them in streets with no education or morality to create ruckus in society.

All this down the drain and then talking about “ let’s train everyone and make them fight action scenes like in movies 1 against a gang”.

Good quality pepper spray or stun guns which can fit inside the purse or handbags should also be provided.

Government can buy in bulk quantities and give it at subsidized rates to low income families.

Those who have money can buy at regular rates. Taser is another one, but it is bit expensive.

First of all teach a lesson to your culture less party goons.
Most of the happened after 2014 happened either done by Bjp goons nor supported by them.
Why can't your yogi govt take a action on unnao rape case accused?
If he takes action victim will burnt alive.
Simple problem of BJP is they divided the people on the basis of upper class & lower class.

We are matametically in 21st century but BJP wants to keep us in 15th century.
