All 4 accused in Hyderabad vet rape and murder case killed in encounter

Hyderabad, Dec 6 (IANS): A week after the brutal gang rape and murder of a young veterinarian in Hyderabad, police shot dead all the four accused in an alleged 'encounter' near Shadnagar town.

The accused were killed in the early hours of Friday when they allegedly snatched weapons from the police and tried to escape from the Chatanpally near Shadnagar, about 50 km from Hyderabad.

Police sources said they were gunned down at the same spot where the accused had dumped the victim's body and set it afire on the night of November 27 after the gang rape near Shamshabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The accused were taken to the spot by the Cyberabad police for reconstruction of the crime scene as part of the investigations.

The four accused killed in the encounter were identified as: lorry drivers Mohammed Arif (26) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu (20), and lorry cleaners Jollu Shiva (20) and Jollu Naveen (20). All hailed from the Narayanpet district of Telangana.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar and other senior officials rushed to the 'encounter' scene.

As the news of the 'encounter' spread, people gathered near the scene on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru national highway.

The four were arrested by the police on November 29 and the next day a court in Shadnagar had sent them to judicial custody for 14 days. They were subsequently shifted to Cherlapally Jail in Hyderabad.

A court on Wednesday had remanded the accused to police custody for seven days. The police believed to have taken them into custody on Thursday. This was done secretly as police was anticipating law and order problem due to possible protest by people.

Massive protest was held outside Shadnagar police station on November 30 when the accused were about to be taken to court. Hundreds of people demanded that the accused be handed over to them. The magistrate had to be brought to the police station to send the accused into the custody.

The gruesome rape and murder had triggered nation-wide rage with demands for immediate death penalty to the perpetrators. There have been protests all over the country. Many demanded that the accused be hanged in public.

Speaking in the Parliament, some MPs even called for lynching the perpetrators of the horrific crime.

Telangana government on December 4 had set up a fast-track court in Mahabubnagar for speedy trial.

Why any accused should not be punished before being convicted?

2017, police in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, found that for 10 years, they had imprisoned a man for a murder he never committed. The murder was committed by his brother who was at large. The cops arrested Bala Singh, even though his mother, a daily-wage labourer, pleaded that the police were mistaking Bala for her other son. When he was set free, he told reporters he had only one wish: the official who arrested him should be punished. There are so many such cases in India!!

Statistics on Indian prisons reveal that 68 per cent of prisoners in India are those who have not been convicted by any court for a crime. Many among them have to wait for years before the trial court even begins hearing their cases.

Analysis of the latest reports of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows that jails in India are mostly flooded with young men and women who are illiterate or semi-literate and come from socio-economically weaker sections of society. More than 65 per cent of undertrial prisoners belong to the SC, ST and OBC categories. Most of them are too poor to even afford the bail fee.

Its unfortunate today that Celebs and Politicians are applauding this fake encounter. Same celebs make money from this by making stupid and antisocial movies with no value to education or good values in society.

People are absolute FOOLS - they said "Down Down Police " not that long ago when they ridiculed girls father when they tried to lodge a complaint of missing and now same people are saying " Jai Police" !!!

Instead of developing a faith and fear in judiciary system and law - these idiots are following the movie style and politicians and celebs are cashing them very well!

Just imagine the worst other possibility - that Police here are trying to protect the rich and political connections behind this horrible rape and created a false visuals to frame this poor 4 lads!!! and now case is closed as truth never comes out.

I suppose Indian public deserves this Karma - SOONER OR LATER THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CELEBRATING SOME ONE`S DEATH WILL ALSO BE A VICTIM!!! Just a matter of time in the clock of life.

    Really!!!
    How about Pradhyuman boy murder?
Bus driver arrested with evidence / video etc and he confessed to public press as well!
Then CBI enquiry and that poor man was acquitted.

    Open your eyes
I am not saying that they are not criminals but there is a way to fight for justice.
Instead of fighting for better judiciary , people have accepted corrupt politicians, pseudo and useless celebs with no education and moral values and people are following them.

This is not justice with fake encounter.
    Revenge!!
Agree in principle if those are real culprits but still not helpful to develop a civilised society and neither this will prevent any rapes!!!
Search google how many rapes happened after this encounter - you will find a shocking result!!

The police action is welcome as Indian justice system take so long even for decades. Hence victims do not get justice as " Justice delayed is justice denied". But these victims were from poor background without any financial or political background. Hope that police take actions and not shy away to encounter for the definitely proved cases where high profile people involved like with economically or politically strong connections.

This is justice.. But i hope those are the real culprits.. if they are then justice is served and Priyanka reddy will rest in peace....
Somtimes police officials simply drag poor and innocent people to the crime scene and project them as culprits just to cover rich peoples mistake.. and i have seen one such case in Mangalore.. so thats the reason india law never directly orders shoot out or follows sharia law... but again law is taken in hand by politicians and police as they need... or else our Indian law is the best...if that was made use positively without any interference of politics....

I am also thinking of those poor mothers of those culprits who because of poverty could not concentrate and upbring their kids in a normal way... and also just thinking of how the mother of the victim might have been feeling ... she will never forget the incident and the way her daughter suffered before death... God this is really a cruel orld... why dont people try to leave peacefully .. EDUCATION IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT AND OUR EDUCATION WAY SHOULD BE CHANGED... VERY VERY NECESSARY .....

All of the celebrations of the murder of 2 adults and 2 minors suspected but never proved to be guilty has unsettled me greatly. I have never felt further removed from the general sentiment. If women can feel they are surrounded by rapists, I am feeling surrounded by mobs of people rushing here and there on some errand, to burn this or that target of some issue, be it rape or communalism, or something else. Now we are in the time of mobs. Now the authorities will kill whomever the mob calls out. And the politicians will demand even more lynchings and extrajudicial murder. And the ones responsible will receive sweets and flowers while the mob prepares the next target, whomever it may be. And the devious will make their calculations so the neighborhoods of their enemies burn. But it will be the whole nation that burns out of control.

It is as though the time of great danger has suddenly appeared. The tinderbox is bone dry and awaiting a spark. And fools are striking matches thinking to warm their hands.

These deaths requires to be investigated. I dont have little doubt in my mind that they have been killed by the police.

There are many reasons why police might have killed them. Firstly I never heard police taking the accused at 3 am to the crime spot. Secondly it is difficult to believe that they snatched weapons from police police when there are enough police taking these 4 accused to the crime spot. Even for the sake of argument if we assume that one of the accused snatached a weapon from the police why other accused were killed. Thirdly the police have made sure that none of them survives to give evidence against the police in this killings.

People are golrifying the top cop saying that he is is a kannadiga, I am ashamed of this kannadiga
Yes I agree that people have lost faith in the system because of delay in getting justice, but law makers have to work for that. Unfortunately more that 30 percent of our parliamentarians have criminal cases filed against them including rape etc.

If we approve what happened in hyerabad then i dont think we require courts etc. Police or public themselves can do justice.

Dont forget the incident at rayan school recently where bus conductor was innocent as mentioned by someone.
Every accused requires a fair trial.

This is called speedy justice. Though I’m against extra-judicial killings, I don’t feel sorry for the killing of these devils and I salute the police force who did this great job. If our police can encounter (fake or real) the terrorists, why not encounter the hardcore criminals? The guys who rape and kill a weak woman have terrorized our society, as such we should not point finger at police for their action. Those who question the killings, should ask themselves if it happens to their female family members, what would be their reaction. The mother of the victim said she wants the rapists to be burnt alive. She has passed the judgement and I’m sure 90% of our people would endorse her judgement. When a dog goes mad, do we keep him alive? The police just killed the mad dogs so that the dogs will not be any more dangerous to our society.
Our judiciary system works on slow motion and I don’t think anybody has faith in it. If they consider rape a heinous crime, I don’t think there would have been so many rapes day after day. India has become a rape capital of the world, which has tarnished the great image of the country. Why don’t we have fasttrack courts to handle such cases? One would agree with me if we had stringent laws against the rape crimes, I don’t think the need of encountered killings would ever arise.
While this case is still hot, there was one more case in UP where a rape victim was badly beaten and then burnt by 5 people and 2 of the guys who set her on fire were her rapists who were just out on bail. The girl is fighting her burn injuries and the chances of her survival is very less. Nirbhaya case is still fresh in our minds and the case is still going on even after so many years, which means justice is still denied. Thousands of such cases still did not see the day-light. Enough is enough. Justice has been done in just one case, many such cases are still waiting.

It is true that the courts are supposed to punish the guilty , but only if the courts give Justice on Time.

Nirbhaya case is the best example for it, still her family members are fighting for her Justice, that too even after the court giving a judgement of death sentence. I agree there are examples of fake encounter in our country, but it should not be an excuse for every encounter that happens in our country.

There was a time in Mumbai when underworld used to be at it's height ,crime was a common thing on the streets of Mumbai, all underworld gangster's used these Court's for thier own safety, their lawyers always saved them from death sentence or life time imprisonment ,they had no fear of anything, they used to think they are next to God, But when Mumbai police started encounters ,the influence of underworld in Mumbai was reduced, today the situation is not like 1980's in Mumbai.

Court is only good when you get Justice on time, our lawyer's are experts in getting dates from courts, hence Justice delayed is Justice denied.

Bravos to Telegana police...In a corrupt system I believe this is the only way crime will reduce as we have seen rapes have only increased after nirbaya's case inspite of so many protests..

I only hope the four killed are not innocents made scapegoats to cover up some other influential people in which case it would be a grave disaster, another serious crime committed to cover up an already heinous crime!

Unfortunately, we have to be happy with this encounter, just because of our powerless entire Judiciary system.

My questions to those who are against my above opinion :

    1. Nirbaya case - Death sentence issued, till date not executed ! and you wanted to believe me in
    Judiciary ?
    2. Unnao Gang Rape Case - Accused granted bail, after getting bail they tried to burn the victim ! and you wanted me to hold my positive opinion on law ?
    3. Kasab having known for his brutal attack, which we have seen live on our tv screen, the law of our country took almost 2 years to hang him ?
    4. Human Rights activities concerned/save the life of accused and not the victim who lost the life for no reason ?

Laws are made to play, twist, drag time and support the accused. Knocking for justice is like getting tortured for raising truth.

Sorry to say, I have lost my faith in Judiciary. It will not retrieve until I see fast track justice.

Still I don’t believe. I find something fishy. So many questions arises.
How is possible encounter on 4 people at a time?
They were in police custody. How they let them run?
Instead of encounters, they should have hanged them in public.
    KCR more smart?
He wants to put a ‘full stop’ for people’s anger.

Rape and murder should never go unpunished. But what the police in Telengana have done is also murder, they could have shot and injured but killing is bad esp. before the charges are proved. The same people who protested the Sorabuddin encounter are applauding the Telengana encounter. Sorabuddin was a known criminal. We do not know if all those involved I the Telengana case were known criminals or not. Tomorrow if your own brother, father son or husband is killed in an encounter before charges are proved, only on the basis of allegations, how would you feel?

If it is a genuine encounter, when the culprits tried to escape, then what happened is the best thing.
But if the encounter was orchestrated; then the swift punishment ( death sentence) by the government after proper procedures would have been a best example. The orchestrated encounter encourages misuse of law by the police departments in the future.

There also a 'liberty' for women to live without fear. If they are to fear getting out of the house alone, how would our mothers/sisters were to survive ? Are we brothers/husbands free to take them around as and when they want ? Or, are these men to enjoy sex with any available women, or there is a social custom of marriage like all other men follow ? Why they rape and rest of the men feel guilty on behalf of them ?

When death penalty was brought in for rapists, I was suspecting that these evil minded people will resort to destruction of evidence and lead to further level of violence against men; thus taking the level of helplessness to a altogether new levels.

Similar abuse of law was also resorted to by the Mafia and Gangsters. They were finally controlled through encounter killing only.

True extrajudicial killing is not desirable. However, with scale of violence that can destroy the fabric of society, the cost for rapists should also be very high. Whether the rapists tried to escape or not, but, heartfelt congratulations to the brave police officers for bringing swift justice and sending a strong message for future rapists in the making. When a president of Superpower state Donald Trump can be impeached , a Saudi prince can be given capital punishment then why our Law has become so weak and spineless towards heinous crimes?

Anyway you reap what you sow! Good news! But i feel this actually shows the inefficiency of the police. The police should have shot them in their legs, this way they would have lived a crippled guilty life. It would have been a warning for others too

While this is good news and punishment should be dealt with but this should not be accepted as a solution.

These rapists were encountered as they were poor. What about BJP MP Nithyanand, Kuldeep? Will they be encountered next?

Also what if in future poor people are wrongly framed and encountered as our Indian police is expert doing this.

All civilizations have judicial process and this is where we have to work on. The number of judges should be increased, All crimes judgement should be time bound. There should be emphasis on scientific evidence as happens in developed countries. We are not a banana republic to do fake encounters or mob lynching of rapists as suggested by Jaya Prada.

    Remember Ryan School Murder Case?

Police arrested the bus conductor, who confessed that he murdered the child. Later, CBI investigated and found that police tortured and forced him to confess. He was not the real murderer. Real culprit was 11th class student from same school. If police had encountered the bus conductor, people would have celebrated and wrongly thought justice has been served.

That's why fake #Encounter is so bad. It is very important to prove the accused in court, otherwise true justice is always denied.

Many people are celebrating Hyderabad Encounter because they have lost trust in our judiciary and police system to give fast justice. There are two solutions. First is to encounter the accused rapists to instantly satisfy the public. This is a shortcut, which can have dangerous results. Maybe next time, police frames an innocent poor person to make themselves look like hero and solve the case quickly. Maybe next time, one of your family members is falsely accused and encountered.
