Byndoor, Nov 23: An ancient inscription belonging to either seventh or eighth century written in Sanskrit of Devanagari script was found at Kundabarandadi, Hakladi gram panchayat limits, Byndoor during research conducted in the leadership of history researcher Dr Kishore Kumar Shetty.

The inscription is 0.60 meter long and 0.27 meter high. Shivalinga in the inscription is 0.16 meters high and 0.17 meters wide. Light pole on it is 0.12 meters high and 0.07 meters wide. The sword is 0.08 meters high and 0.03 meters wide. Moon is 0.075 high and sun 0.05 meters. The height of the script is 0.72 meters and width is 0.62 meters. The overall height of the inscription is 1.02 meters. It has 34 lines of writing.

The finding is throwing light on the history of the coast. Most of the inscriptions found here so far were in Kannada and old Kannada. But the inscription found here is different. The contribution to the development in this part by the kings and local customs can be known by its discovery.

Bhandarkar’s College students Prajna S, Laxmi, Nireeksha, Kundapur government pre university college students Anwita, government high school students Prakhyat, Preetham, Gautham, Sushmitha and Ananya were briefed about the inscription.

Locals who helped in the task said that further details will be known only after completion of research.
