Mangaluru: Pingara Rajyotsava Award conferred on Ignatius Orwin Noronha

Mangaluru Nov 12: The 15th year Pingara Rajyotsava award was conferred on MozziQuit inventor Ignatius Orwin Noronha of Mangaluru here in a grand function held at Town Hall on Tuesday November 12.

Ignatius Orwin Noronha received the award from bishop of Mangaluru Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said," Ignatius Orwin Noronha invented MozziQuit for the prevention of mosquito which is useful for the environment. Pingara has given the award for most deserving person.”

 

After receiving the award Ignatius Orwin Noronha said, "I thank national institute of malaria research for recommending me for the award and Pingara for giving the award. This award is very important for me. My mother is the inspiration for me to invent MozziQuit. She suffered a lot due to filariasis and even at the age 87 she is taking anti filariasis injection.”

Ignatius Orwin Noronha from Mangaluru is an inventor of MozziQuit an eco-friendly, non-chemical, central government recognized and internationally appreciated mosquito killer machine.

Noronha, a Limca Book record holder, who invented, tried, tested and established a manufacturing unit of mosquito killing machine in Mangaluru, was recognized by central government and was granted Rs 15 lac for his achievement. This machine was tested in Goshaalas, public places and houses in different sizes.

It is significant that an application was forwarded by a scientist of Bengaluru-based malaria research centre suggesting Ignatius Orwin’s name for this. It is very important that a Mangalurean is recognized at this juncture of dengue and malaria affected time.

Selection committee comprised of members C G Pinto, Dr B G Suvarna and president of district working journalists’ union Srinivas Indaje, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad Harikrishna Punaroor, former President of Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino, and president Chutuku Sahitya Parishad Dr Suresh Negalguli. Coordination of the selection was done by Fr William Menezes and Elias Fernandes, director of Four Winds Advertising Agency.

Editor of Pingara newspaper Raymond D’Cunha welcomed the gathering and Nathalia D’Cunha compered the event.

MLC Ivan D Souza, Harikrishna Punaroor, Roy Castelino, Dr Suresh Negalguli and others were present.
