Mysuru: St Antony’s Shrine Dornahalli granted title of Minor Basilica

Mysuru, Nov 11: The Pope Francis has granted the title of Minor Basilica to St Antony’s Shrine, Dornahalli of Mysuru diocese through a decree dated October 17.

Bishop of Mysuru Dr K A William expressing his joy thanked God, for the special status granted by the Church to Dornahalli in particular and to Diocese of Mysuru in general.

The bishop stated that “The decree reminds us that by this declaration, the Catholic Church intensifies the bond with the Church of Rome and the Holy Father by promoting an exemplar of liturgical and pastoral action within the diocese. The dicastry also reminds that due attention has to be given to the privileges attached to the title of Minor Basilica as well as the rights and duties of the liturgical and pastoral nature which are laid out in chapters 3 and 4 of the decree Domus Ecclesia of Nov 9, 1989.”

The Bishop has said that he will intimate about the thanksgiving celebrations for this status of Minor Basilica once the date and the other schedules are decided.

In the recent past Harihar church was also granted the title of Minor Basilica.
