Panaji, Oct 11:  Goa CM Pramod Sawant urged the Union Government to separate Goa postal region from neighbouring Maharashtra circle so that more locals can avail opportunities with Indian Posts. As far as Indian post is concerned, Goa at present is part of Maharashtra circle.

Chief Minister Sawant on Wednesday said he would send the proposal to the ministry of communications and also requested minister for state for Ayush and defence Shripad Naik to convince the Centre about the need for a separate Goa Postal Circle.

As reported in TOI, CM Sawant said '' Presently, there is a small reservation for Goans in the Maharashtra region. But since Marathi is compulsory and Konkani is not considered, just 1% of the Goan youth who apply get selected for the posts.” Many Maharashtrians who are appointed to Goa region seek transfers within a year of their posting, leaving many vacant posts in the state, the CM added.
