This Mangalurean's device can put an end to mosquito menace worldwide

Daijiworld Media Network - Business

Mangaluru, Jul 25: While most of us are used to being bitten by mosquitoes, and think it’s not a big deal, these disease-transmitting insects are responsible for over 2.7 million deaths worldwide. Considered to be one of the greatest menaces, mosquitoes are responsible for spreading diseases such as malaria, dengue, yellow fever, lymphatic filariasis, Japanese encephalitis and Zika.

In spite of being aware of the deadly dangers these tiny insects can cause, we continue to adjust living with this buzzing enemy. But this 59-year-old Mangalurean is not the one to suffer silently. He has dedicated 18 years of his life to create a device, which he claims is as an ultimate mosquito ‘kill machine’ and can make India and the world free from mosquitoes.

Ignatius Orwin Noronha

Ignatius Orwin Noronha, the managing director of Leowin Solutions Pvt Ltd, has designed an unique product called ‘MozziQuit’. The simple and affordable machine, acts like a trap which attracts and kills mosquitoes. However, unlike other mosquito repellents, the solution in MozziQuit is not hazardous for one’s health and is eco-friendly.

A commerce graduate from St Aloysius College, Noronha says that his war with mosquitoes began quite early. “When I was around eight, I had asked my mother about her swollen left leg. It is Filariasis, a disease caused by mosquito bite, she said. This incident always remained in the back of my head and is one of the main reasons, I started doing research and development to put an end to mosquito menace,” Noronha tells Daijiworld.

Noronha adds that he was inspired by seeing the ‘Mosquito Magnet’ in 2001, a product introduced by American Biophysics Inc, which a Hyderabad based trader distributes exclusively. The product is priced at Rs 1,10,000 per unit with a monthly cost of Rs 5000, including 4-LPG cylinders. “It is here, I thought of creating affordable version of the same while considering the ecological effects. This resulted in the creation of the MozziQuit,” he says.

How MozziQuit Works

Currently priced at Rs. 1800 per unit including 18% GST, MozziQuit is a device that attracts, traps and kills female mosquitoes every day in large numbers at lowest operating cost of less than Rs 10 paisa per day for electricity.

The device does not use any chemicals or consumables or emits UV Radiation. It is very safe for use in houses, cow sheds, livestock farms and at external locations where mosquitoes breed.

MozziQuit uses food grade powder additives already added in the plastic parts while molding in injection. The device generates heat equivalent to blood, nerves and the light emitted by a bedlamp. This attracts the mosquitoes to come closer to the device. Once in the vicinity of the machine, the mosquitoes get vacuumed forcibly into it. They then pass through the instant killing zone of perforated sheets. Users can see the dead mosquitoes collected in the removable container before disposing them, explains Noronha.

Appeal for Support

Noronha appeals for support from people across the world to help him in his mission and aid him to set up a full-fledged MozziQuit manufacturing unit in Mangaluru and assembling units across India and in all 91 countries affected by Malaria as identified by World Health Organisation.

“If people can contribute as little as Rs 10, we shall provide one MozziQuit MQ-MINI 3 Pin model free of cost to people below poverty line/cow owners having 1 or 2 cows, invoicing at Rs. 1,500/- per unit out of collected contribution amount,” he says.

In addition, Noronha hopes for government support. “Recently, media reported that Mangaluru authorities from Corporation and Health department have sanctioned Rs 11.40 crore to install sanitary pad disposing units/machine at some selected locations. It is going to be a waste of money as none of the girls are prepared to pack and carry used sanitary pads to dispose in units set up at certain locations,” he says.

Meanwhile, with over 400 dengue cases, which has already claimed four lives in Mangaluru this monsoon season, MozziQuit is the need of the hour, says Noronha. t can be used in every house, every cow shed and at external mosquito breeding locations. This will bring permanent solution, putting an end to preventable diseases spread by mosquitoes.

“With financial assistance between Rs 25 lac to Rs 1 crore to scale up the production, all people could buy the device at an affordable price. This device can permanently solve the mosquito menace which torments people in Mangaluru,” Noronha claims.

Study proves benefits of MozziQuit

Noronha among all the accolades, prides his invention has benefited cows and the dairy farmers. A detailed Evaluation Report issued by Director of Research, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University of Bidar and the Validation Report issued by Assistant Director of Veterinary Hospital, Mangaluru, both confirm increase in milk yield as well as increase in weight of cows after using MozziQuit device in cow sheds.

“This could enable cow owners especially women who mostly work in cow sheds at the bottom of the pyramid level in India to earn more daily income. It will also give more income to all Milk Collection Unions and to all dairies which could strengthen India’s GDP as presently 30% of India’s Agricultural GDP is from dairy industry,” highlights Noronha.

“It is on record that Sir Ronald Ross an Indian born British National was awarded Nobel Prize in the year 1902 for his discovery that Malaria parasites are transmitted to people by mosquito bites. Maybe, if I succeed in my mission and make India and world mosquito free, India can expect another Nobel prize,” says Noronha.

Accolades

In May 2019, Noronha claims that the World Health Organisation has confirmed vide emails that MozziQuit is included for Prequalification Process under New Tools for Vector Control. Upon completion of Prequalification Process, MozziQuit could be used in all 91 Malaria infected countries in the world through WHO. Roll Back Malaria Partnership has estimated cost of $ 100 Billion to be spent in 91 countries by the year 2030 to reduce malaria cases to less than 90%.

In January this year, MozziQuit was displayed in Geneva, Switzerland during 14th Annual Meeting of Roll Back Malaria Partnership Working Group for Vector Control. It was among the only 7 other branded products where 275 people from 91 Malaria affected countries had participated.

Leowin Solutions Pvt Ltd also won the prestigious FICCI Excellence Awards 2018 under category Health Care start-up. MozziQuit won Rs 15 lac grant in Millennium Alliance Round 4 Awards held in Delhi in July 2017. MozziQuit was displayed in FICCI Global R and D Summit held in Bengaluru on 5-6 May 2017.

MozziQuit was displayed in Festival of Innovations held in Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 16, 2016. Dr Soumya Swaminathan, former director general of Indian Council of Medical Research, Delhi released Rs 3 lac grant in October 2016 to National Institute of Malaria Research for submission of Field Evaluation Report on Performance of MozziQuit device after personally seeing more than 4 crore dead mosquitoes filled in 4 Pet Jars displayed at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

MozziQuit has won Prestigious Gold Medal Award in DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Programme. MozziQuit has won ISA Best Electronic Product of the Year under Healthcare Category. It has also won Spandana Business Award and the MSME/NITTE/KBL/MRPL - Most Promising Startup Award. The then bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza has honoured Noronha, alumni of Pompei High School, Urwa for his achievements. He has been honoured at Rashtriya Konkani Samavesha held in Sirsi.

This mosquito killer is not efficient and not the first of its kind, do a search on Amazon and find similar at one third the price ( Rs 660). Secondly, to sell on Amazon, the seller has to follow certain standards. I believe Amazon for quality, standards, and description of the product.

I had purchased one unit 2 years back, unfortunately it traps not more than 5-6 mosquitoes.
I had called them to inform but they said it works fine.. But I didn't find any results.. Either equipment is fault or I may be placing the equipment wrongly at home!

Perhaps the second reason! The device catches mosquitoes and has been proven in all conditions - test and real. I have successfully used it and also seen how some people did not find it useful for few reasons. Like the early day mobile phones, this device has some weaknesses. It does not work when the lights are on, because mosquitoes dont get attracted to its specific light. It does not work if you are safely securing your doors and windows and prevent mosquitoes from coming in! It does not work directly under the fan also because mosquitoes find it hard to reach the device under the fast moving fan. It does not work when you are watching the TV in full light. Its advantages is, no chemical allergic effect, no UV rays, no repetitive costs (like repellents). The repellents also do not kill the mosquitoes, but this device does that.
It is good to use when you spot mosquitoes (happens in ground floor, tiled roof houses mostly or where there are gardens outside the house) in any room. You can close the room, switch this device on and leave it there for few hours. It will catch all mosquitoes in that room. Then use that room, but dont open the device repeatedly to check. The trapped mosquito takes some time to die. In the night when all lights are off, keep this device in your hall or kitchen or near toilet etc.
I am saying this because I have used it correctly and found its use.

If the product is cost effective and so good then financing should not be a problem. Venture capitalist will cash in the opportunity, if you permit it. I have not heard about it till now, always used goodnight brand. Please also look at the option of battery operated one so that outdoor enthusiasts can use it.
Aggressive marketing for a quality product surely will bring top dollars /Rs.

Dear Mr. Clean, Thank you for your comment. Yes the present 3 models we have developed are more effective in the evening. The MQ-MINI 3 Pin model installed at Shakthi Enterprises the Plastic Molding Factory in Yeyyadi is switched on 24 hours and workers see trapping of mosquitoes during the day time also. The Final Report issued by National Institute of Malaria Research, Bangalore confirm trapping of Aedes Mosquitoes in MozziQuit device when they were testing in Field Trails they had conducted at construction sites of Fr. Muller Hospital, A.J. Engineering college kuloor and at other places. Also We have got 12 Design Registration Certificates granted to us for various Designs of Devices which are for use during day time, for use at external mosquito breeding locations, for use in Volvo Buses, for use in aircrafts etc.

Our research has also got us Next Generation Device of total Green Technology without use of Power or consumables costing less than one time cost of Rs. 25 to make which is capable of trapping lakhs of mosquitoes every day at external breeding locations which are already identified by us. By using this Technology outside of every houses, we can wipe out mosquito population in no time. It is on record and we have already demonstrated of trapping more than 10 crore mosquitoes in 3 months installed in the cow shed of Mr. Clement Lobo in Kenjar on way to Bajpe Airport. His mobile no. is 9164314226 one more is Mr. Peter Dsouza of Surathkal. His no. is 9342519125. Same way I can prove of trapping millions of mosquitoes per day at external locations. Since I have spent more than 18 years on this R&D not for earning money for me, I am thinking of Donating our this Technology for the people of 91 countries presently facing problems with mosquito borne diseases. I am waiting for appointment to meet Prime Minister to submit my proposal. Ms. Faye Dsouza or Mr. Arnab Goswami my show all details and proof of Video as Breaking News any time.

    Mr Noronha,

I think it is a great invention.

May I suggest an alternative approach to 'funding'?

You "pvt ltd" could be transformed, with the assistance of a couple of experiened Chartered Accountants, into a "public limited" company.
Many north Indians, using some flimsy ideas, have done exactly same.

With people buying shares, you do not need to rely on support.

Do excuse me if you have already explored the idea.

All the best with your next step.
