Dallas, Jul 11: A missing person investigation of a 57-year-old man led to a shocking discovery in a small town in Dallas. He was eaten up by 18 of his own pet dogs.

Freddie Mack, was reported missing in May this year, from his home near Venus, a community of fewer than 4,000 people about 50 kilometres southwest of Dallas in USA. His family revealed that he was reclusive in nature and they heard from him last in mid-April.

After he was reported missing, the investigators visited Mack’s property. However, the dogs were aggressive and they found it challenging to enter his property.

When Mack was not found in the house, the cops of Johnson County Sheriff's Office continued search in other places. However, even after days there were no clues about Mack. Hence, they returned to his property and conducted a combing operation. It is here, they found dog feces containing remnants of human bones, hair and clothes.

The remnants were sent to the University of North Texas Centre for Human Remains Identification, and were eventually matched to Mack through family DNA testing.

Deputy Aaron Pitts told media on Tuesday, that the 18 mixed-breed dogs apparently devoured all of Mack's body, his clothing and his hair, leaving nothing larger than 2- to 5-inch bone fragments.

"Never have we ever, or anyone we've spoken to, heard of an entire human being consumed. The bones were completely broken up and eaten,” Pitts told the press.

Of the 18 dogs, 2 were killed by other members of the pack. Thirteen dogs were put down as they were aggressive in nature and three have been put up for adoption, Pitts informed.

Mack was very fond of his dogs and cared for them well. He suffered from various health issues. It is still not clear if the dogs killed Mack or he died first due to his ill-health and was later consumed. However, the dogs consuming its owner is a gruesome incident, Sheriff Adam King said in a press statement.
