Woman police official's killer unfolds tale of unrequited love

Daijiworld Media Network - Thiruvananthapuram (SP)

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 18: The accused police officer who brutally killed and set on fire a woman police official named Soumya Pushpakaran, has since revealed why he chose to eliminate the woman he loved the most.

Ajaz, a policeman, who happens to be the murder-accused, was subjected to intensive questioning by the police. During this period, the police came to know that Ajaz had planned to commit suicide after killing Soumya. This information was given by police sub-inspector of Vallikunnam station, Saiju Ibrahim.

Soumya (left) and Ajaz

Soumya had met Ajaz three years back for the first time when she was posted to Thrissur to undergo training at the police academy there where Ajaz happened to be a trainer. Later, the two had become friends on Facebook, which continued during the last three years. The only other person having knowledge of this friendship happens to be Soumya's mother, Indira. The sub-inspector said that the two also had some financial dealings between them.

As Soumya's husband works abroad, she was staying with her mother and three children. Soumya, who was very close to her mother, was in the habit of revealing everything about herself and her life to her mother.

Ajaz, in the meantime, expressed his desire to marry Soumya. He began to pressurise her to desert her husband and three children and live with him. Soumya, realizing that continuing his friendship could be detrimental to her life, tried to keep distance from Ajaz, the sub-inspector said. Ajaz however persisted with pestering her. As differences of opinion arose between the two on the issue, Soumya had blocked the Whatsapp number of Ajaz. She also refused to pick cellphone calls emanating from him. Ajaz, who was infuriated by this attitude, killed Soumya and torched her. He also tried to end his own life thereafter, Saiju Ibrahim said.

The official said that Ajaz killed Soumya purposefully. Being a police officer on duty, he was well aware of the result of committing crimes. He had bought a sharp knife from some market for killing Soumya, the police have found.

Speaking to media representatives, Soumya's mother, Indira, recollected that Ajaz had behaved in such a senseless manner even in the past. She recounted that on one occasion; he had poured petrol on Soumya and thrashed her on her back in a crude manner with a shoe. "I offered to speak to him but Soumya stopped me. She said that Ajaz would be on his own if we keep aloof," she said, adding that she lost her loving daughter because of the ulterior designs of Ajaz.

Indira had raised her children by undertaking tailoring work as Soumya's father was bedridden. Soumya has left behind her husband, who works abroad, two sons aged ten and seven, and a four-year-old daughter. The two elder children are in a state of shock at the murder of their mother while the small one is unaware of the catastrophe that has hit the family, sub-inspector Saiju stated.

On the fateful last Saturday, Soumya was returning home after duty hours in a two-wheeler. Ajaz, who followed her in a car, knocked her vehicle with his car as a result of which she fell down. Soumya, realizing that Ajaz wanted to kill her, began to run away. Ajaz chased her, stabbed her with a knife, poured kerosene on her, and started fire. Soumya, who suffered grave injuries, died on the spot.

Ajaz thereafter torched himself. But he survived with 50 percent burns. He was immediately admitted into the intensive care unit of Alappuzha Medical College and Hospital and treated.

Tragody ,very sad.Poor children are now have to suffer without mother. He killed his loved woman.Noone will kill a person if he really loves from heart. He took not only revenge but his love too.very sick person, not fit to be a police officer ,a trainer.Other side she should have taken some distance from him as a married ,with three children, husband away far in foreign, when she came to know he wanted more than a friendship.why she continued friendship for three years? That must have encouraged him.She could have complained to her chief about his behaviour as soon as some mischiefs he undertook.and inform husband to help her.she failed and he was furious when connection was broken.Fellow must be punished and pay compansation to her children .Heartfelt sympathy to family including children, parents and husband.May her soul rest in peace.

When Soumya fully aware of this dirty intention of this guy, she should have taken legal action him. This is very disgusting within a month, continuously all 3 ladies got murdered by so called men one by one. First Mrs. Shetty, Ms. Anjana and now Soumya. Is there any control on this? This is what Beti Padav.. Beti Bachao mission of our Government!! For Animal killing there is immediate punishment but Women killing culprit first admitted in the hospital, giving treatment, then enquiry, then custody... After some time, no news of such culprits, they are free.. This is the respect our Government is giving for a woman in our Country. Very sad thing...

Beasts are better as they do not have thinking power. Killing a family oriented lady with three small children is a very heinous crime in the name of love that too unrequited love. It is an eye opener for all especially ladies that "be careful as mentally sick people will be around posing as gentleman or good Samaritan or lover boy".

Its natural for a man and woman to get attracted other than their own spouses.Sometimes if a man stare at woman in a good way, woman feel so elevated, she keeps seeing herself in mirror.
But we as woman(especially married) try to control being so free with men.Keep saying to ourselves,we are married ,we are committed, not to cheat the spouse.Same goes to married men.

Her husband should have taken her abroad.Anyways
this police officer should get severe punishment,he doesn't deserve to police officer.Shame on him.

Staring in a good way..I dont think so there is any good way in staring at a woman..Women tend to label men as creeps and perverts who stare at them..Let Almighty have mercy on the women who get elevated when men stare at them.

If responsible people do like this then what common people will do. Inspite of knowing lady is married with 3 kids and she is from other community, a responsible police did irresnposnible act. which may scare female to keep any contact with that community people.

Being a police officer, she should have complained about this possessive behavior to the police. If she herself cant trust the police, then how can we? She should have got a restraining order against this Psycho.

This is lesson for all women and girls keep distance with men other than your immediate family members. Being a police man he should be awarded death sentence. Facebook whatsapp use created for business purposes and it should be used for right purpose.
Hundreds of followers and likes in Facebook doesn’t make you secure.

Maybe husband of Soumya was totally unaware of wife's friendship with Ajaz that is why the first time he attacked her, both Soumya and her mother Indira hushed it up and did not even give police complaint. ..there is something more sinister in this story ..

See its crystal clear, no matter now its a trend of gender mixed environment at all places. Married women should avoid making close friendship with any of their male counterpart, coz our intention may be good, but we never know about the opposite persons intention.
Better to avoid friendship with male counterparts. There is no such thing as close friendship between opposite gender, it all leads to illegal stuff and relation..... Be happy with married life and family.

This is a lesson to all the males and females who are already married. Be careful when you start new relation of any sorts with a unmarried or married person of opposite sex. Most of the Indians take it as a green signal.

Very tragic end. So paining to think that three young children have lost their mom and husband his wife and mother her daughter for the senseless act of one person, who must have been given some hopes by the deceased lady.

Disgusting and shame. The article is very clear, the Woman Police Officer was treated earlier so badly, it could have been a warning to this lady. She should have listened to her mother and also lodged the complain, at least for the innocent kids sake. If this kind of act had happened with the other people, I think they would have taken legal action.

Friendship through facebook cannot be emotional one. Need to be careful. Poor husband working abroad for the family and now what will be his future. Let us pray for him, his children and the mother.
