Udupi, Jun 17: It is said that on Sunday June 16 afternoon, home guard personnel posted at Malpe beach chased away tourists who tried to enter the sea at Malpe beach with the help of canes. A video footage showing the people representing the tourists strongly objecting to and condemning this behaviour has been uploaded in the social websites which has since become viral.
As the sea often becomes turbulent during the rainy season, the tourists are warned against venturing into the sea. As a measure of abundant precaution, protective fencing has been erected in the main portion of Malpe beach for about a kilometer and red flags have been put to warn the visitors about the grave danger.
But the tourists overlook these things. One such group had entered the sea from another portion and its members were playing in water. Reportedly, the home guards who arrived there wielded their canes and shooed away the revellers.
The home guards deployed at the beach said that they had warned the tourists to stay away from water but they were not ready to pay heed to this advice. They justified their action, saying that they did not have any other alternative but to use their canes to scare away the tourists in the interests of their own safety.
