Udupi: Youth attacked with swords at Malpe fishing port, severely injured

Udupi, Jun 7: In an incident that occurred on the early morning hours of Friday, June 7, at Malpe fishing port near here a fish businessman was attacked with swords by a gang that was wearing masks.

Riyaz (32), a resident of Farangipet in Mangaluru taluk, who is severely injured in the attack is being treated in ICU of Manipal hospital. It is learnt that Riyaz is a member of gram panchayat of Farangipet.

Riyaz had arrived to Malpe fishing port in connection with the fish business, along with three others on the early morning of Friday, June 7. The three people who accompanied Riyaz in the vehicle got down and went to the fish business area and Riyaz was sleeping alone in the vehicle.

The miscreants, who followed the vehicle of Riyaz from Mangaluru attacked him with swords. They were wearing masks on their faces. Riyaz received injury to his throat and one of his finger of hand is said to be severed.

It is suspected that Riyaz was attacked by the assailants either due to personal enmity or over some money matter. Exact truth will come to light only after the police completes the initial investigation.

Udupi police circle inspector Manjunath and Malpe SI Madhu visited the hospital and conducted the investigation. A case in this regard is registered at Malpe police station.
