Vijayapura: Murder of Reshma Padekanura from Congress - AIMIM leader arrested

Vijayapura, Jun 3: The police have succeeded in arresting the accused, who reportedly murdered Reshma Padekanura, former president of JD(S) district unit here and Congress leader. The arrested accused happens to be Taufiq Sheikh alias Pailwan.

The accused was taken into custody from near Dhulked village in the district. Taufiq Sheikh happens to be a leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Solapur unit. He has been accused of murdering Reshma Padekanura under the Kolhara Bridge in Vijayapura on May 17 this year.

The operation to nab the accused was conducted under the leadership of Basavana Bagevadi police circle inspector, Mahadev Shirahatti.

Reshma's husband, Khaja Bande Nawaz, had filed complaint against Taufiq Sheikh. The police, who registered the case under Indian Penal Code sections 302 and 201, had formed two teams, one headed by Basavana Bagevadi deputy superintendent of police, Maheshwar Gowda, and Vijayapura deputy superintendent of police, Ashok.

An audio said to contain conversation Reshma allegedly had about Taufiq Sheikh along with her close associate, Sameeulla, had become viral in social media. The audio contains conversation between Reshma and Sameeulla about certain financial dealings with Taufiq Sheikh. Reshma could be heard in the audio saying that Taufiq should be made to oscillate between death and life, and he should not be allowed to die. In the audio, Reshma could also be heard commenting that Taufiq is a coward who has never committed any murder or involved with attempt to murder. She also had said that she has been keeping quiet about him as he is a political figure.

Police sources believe that six persons including Taufiq were involved with this murder.
