Mangaluru, May 24: The staff of the Mangaluru east police station were appreciated by city police commissioner Sandeep Patil here on Friday May 24 for their proactive action against those who were trying to disrupt traffic and create public nuisance during celebrations post the announcement of Lok Sabha results on Thursday May 23.

Soon after results were declared, with BJP's Nalin Kumar Kateel winning from Dakshina Kannada constituency, BJP supporters gathered at Kadri to celebrate the victory. In their enthusiasm, they burst fire crackers in the middle of the road, thus creating traffic jam and nuisance to passersby and others.

The staff of the Kadri (east) police station who were deployed on duty as part of the bandobust for elections did a good job of stopping the people from bursting crackers in the middle of the road.

Also, police said that some of the supporters who were celebrating behaved rudely with the cops and an FIR has been registered against them. They will be traced and arrested soon, the police said.

A video of one such incident shows BJP supporters gather outside Congress office in the city to celebrate. Some of the supporters are seen misbehaving with the police and bursting fire crackers in the middle of the road despite cops trying to stop them.

The police officers at the scene handled the situation professionally. The patience displayed by these officers is commendable. If they have reacted to that black shirt guy, the situation would have turned differently due to mob psychology. The black shirt guy should be punished for obstruction of justice and expelled from BJP.

World noticed the peaceful election by 700 million voters, despite tension between parties. It was a herculean task. We all should salute the law enforcement officials and the election officials as well.
