Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, May 15: It has come to light that the brother of Ramesh Mogera, fisherman working for 'Suvarna Tribhuja' boat which drowned at sea and whose fishermen remain untraced even after nearly five months, tried to end his life, having been distressed by the disappearance of his brother.

Ramesh's brother, Chandrashekhar, son of Shaniyara Mogera, resident of Bunder Road at Bhatkal, has been admitted into the intensive care unit of Adarsha Hospital here. His condition is critical.

Ramesh's family, which is in a state of dismay since an earning member of the family disappeared when engaged in fishing, got another shock in the form of consumption of poison by their other son. The aged parents of both the fishermen, a brother and sisters have become inconsolable by the bolts from the blue that have been hitting them one after the other.

Ramesh Mogera (32) who was working for 'Suvarna Tribhuja' boat had left with the boat for fishing on December 13 from Malpe and remains missing since then. Ramesh's brother, Chandrashekhar, had become depressed by this incident. He had stopped consumption of food properly, and remained glued to a corner of his house. Chandrashekhar, who was of strong build and worked as fisherman at Bhatkal, had recovered a little a month back and was trying to freely mingle with the people again. But on learning on May 3 that the said boat had been found drowned at the bottom of the sea, he slipped into depression again and stopped having food. He became ill. In addition, Chandrashekhar also tried to end his life by consuming rat poison.

No one knew that Chandrashekhar had consumed poison. After the poison spread through his body slowly, he became very tired and asked his brother, Nagaraj, to get his blood test done. During the test conducted at Bhatkal, Chandrashekhar was identified as having been infected with jaundice and accordingly medicine was given.

After his health condition deteriorated further, on May 13, when he was taken to the government hospital at Bhatkal, Chandrashekhar revealed that he had consumed poison three days back. He was immediately admitted into the hospital and then taken to Adarsha Hospital at Udupi for advanced treatment, it is gathered.

In the meantime, a delegation of fishermen will go to New Delhi on May 16 and discuss with minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, about the causes behind the boat tragedy. President of Malpe Fishermen's Association, Sathish Kunder, said that the minister would be urged to do justice to the distressed fishermen families.

there are grocery shops catering to defence personnel..they are called defence canteens....with the skill set of fishermen, it must be very easy to absorb in Indian Navy itself as entry level sailors....or else most of the ships have storekeeper and other admin jobs.....
