Mangaluru, Apr 19: In a commendable feat, a Kasargod based ambulance driver covered a distance of 462 km in just 5 hours and 30 minutes on April 16, to save the life of a 15-day infant.

Hasan (32) who has a driving experience of 8 years shifted the infant that had to undergo an urgent heart transplant from Father Muller Hospital, Mangaluru to Amrutha Hospital in Kochi.

Hasan took it up as a challenge to cover 462 km in the record time, and set off with the infant battling for life at 11 am. Thanks to his exceptional driving skills and coordination from traffic department, the baby reached Kochi hospital at 4.30 pm.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, Hasan said, "The baby was just 15 days old, and was in need of heart surgery so I drove from Mangaluru to Kochi. But I was tensed all the while as I wanted to save the life of the infant at any cost. Ambulance Drivers and Owners Association members and police escorted the ambulance from Mangaluru to Kochi,” said Hasan.

“A whatsapp group was created with the concerned authorities and updates were sent out to clear the traffic wherever needed. Accordingly the junction where traffic congestion is usually seen was cleared on priority and a smooth way was made for the ambulance to pass. I thank all the people, police and members of Ambulance Drivers and Owners Association for helping me to shift the infant safely,” he said.

"The staff of Kings Sunrise Hospital, Kasargod led by Dr Shijo helped us in providing all the facilities required to aid the infant in the ambulance," he added.

However, this feat is not a first for Hasan. Just a year ago, he had driven the ambulance from AJ Hospital to Thiruvananthapuram to save a 45 year old and covered a distance of 652 km in 8 hours.

Mr. Hassan, God bless you and your generations to come for your noble deed,
in-spite of driving in hot conditions. We fight, kill and and even do not hesitate to bear false witness in the Court of Law for property and neglecting humanity. Jai Hind.

    best regards to him,

but, why mangalore could not provide possible solution ?

mangalore the city of medical education as claimed by mangalorenas, why cant the medical colleges give the world class health care ?

why mangalore could not create at leat one amrutha or AIIMS or Vellore, even though we have more than half a dozen medical colleges ??

whole city is flooded with polyclinics & small nursing homes in adition to nine medical collges , but finally a 15 day baby had to be shifted on road by ambulance to amrutha, cochin for health care !!

claiming that professor of medical college & running in cty from hospital to hosiptal, clinic to clinic - then what academic work is being done at college ??

    time to think !!

    VALID QUESTION....HERE IS THE ANSWER...
15 DAYS BABY HAD A COMPLETE HEART FAILURE AND WAS IN NEED OF TRANSPLANT.
HOSPITAL CONTACTED MEDICAL DONOR AUTHORITIES AND WAS IDENTIFIED THAT A DONOR FROM KOCHI WHO IS IN CRITICAL STAGE READY TO DONATE.
    NOW 2 OPTIONS
BABY SHOULD BE SHIFTED TO KOCHI OR DONOR FROM KOCHI TO BE SHIFTED TO MAGALORE
BASED ON THE CRITICAL STAGE OF THE PATIENT IN KOCHI IT WAS DECIDED TO TAKE BABY TO KOCHI.
MANGALORE IS HAVING EVERYTHING BUT THESE ARE CRITICAL ISSUES. HEART DONORS ARE FOUND 1/1CR.

Being able to Cover such distance in less hours is a tribute to highway Authorities and the govt ..they are able to provide well graded roads ..and highways ..
Hopefully caution was not thrown to the winds while trying to cover such distance in a short period of time ..This could have put many other lives in danger.
Thank god the Child is saved.

You appreciated the roads, govt, god but deliberately ignored to appreciate the driver. You have a great "sense" of willful ignorance/blindness/hatred.
