Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore Diocese and president of the governing board of the college presided over the function. Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza,  director, SJEC, Fr Rohit D’Costa, assistant director SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, Bharathi Rao and Prathviraj N, the programme conveners were present on the dais.

Congratulating the students and management, Ronald Mascarenhas said, “SJEC enjoys an eco friendly ambience and student friendly campus. The college has best faculty and is known for quality education in the region. Achievements are very important in each one’s life. No one should take academic time in a light way. It is base for everyone's life. The learning in a campus makes the students responsible citizens. Inspiration and sincere efforts are main pillars of success. And when success becomes a part of journey, our life is filled with happiness. The motivation and greed of learning new things encourages the students to chase success,” he said.

“The world is not waiting for us. It keeps moving on and we have to run with it. Innovation becomes old and new things get innovated. Being a professional it is very easy to be part of this innovation and at the same time sit in the driving seat of it. So it is my advice to students to make a right use of all digital equipment and media. At the same time do not forget to love yourself and the nature. Do not become only men and women of intelligence, but also become a person of good character,” he said.

In his presidential speech bishop Peter Paul said, “I congratulate all the winners and participants in various events and academics. I appreciate all students and entire faculty for their contribution on making this institution a premier one in this region. Every institute is equal to a human body. How a human body needs each of its parts perfect same way an institution wants its every department perfect and active. Past seventeen years, SJEC has been rendering its service to the society without any remark and quality filled academic assessments. The credit goes to each student and faculty of the college. By their academic success and value based character they become our ambassadors.”

“We are in competitive world and each step of our life, we are meeting a competitor. It is my kind advice to students and parents that a competitor always makes us to think who I am or who we are. This process leads us to success. But becoming a competitor we have to concentrate on studying both academic and non academic things. It is the process of self enlightenment and we should stick to it."

In his welcome speech Fr Wilfred Prakash, Director, SJEC said, “In a short span of time SJEC has secured an excellent growth in both academic and administrative sector. The entire credit of this goes to our faculty and students. The dedicated service of our faculty not only helped mould the students in their academic activities but also it helps bring goodwill to our college. With the education of textbooks we also succeed on teaching them moral and social values. Professionalism is very important in everyone's life. The alumni of SJEC reside and work in various parts of the world and have showed how they are trained as professionals in our college. College day is a golden opportunity to remember these things and do a self evaluation. "

Dr Rio D Souza, principal, SJEC, presented the annual report. On behalf of college management, staff and students, the bishop felicitated Ronald Mascarenhas, the chief guest. Bharathi Raj rendered vote of thanks.
