Mangaluru , Mar 15: After the Election Code of Conduct came to effect, a total of 337 liters of alcohol worth Rs 1,15,000 was seized and also 52 cases were booked for excise violations, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sasikanth Senthil.

Addressing media here on Thursday, March 15, Sasikanth Senthil said, "As many as 10 wall writings, 1,901 posters, 4,376 banners and 3,900 others, a total of 10,187 defacements have been removed from public places. In private places, 156 posters, 65 banners, 487 others, a total of 708 defacements have been removed,” 


"Comprehensive instructions for the purpose of effective monitoring of the election expenditure of the candidates are issued, which include, formation of 73 flying squads, 69 static surveillance teams, 169 sector officers and 25 video surveillance teams. In addition, police and excise department have set up check posts wherever required,” he added.

"On conducting private programmes, instructions are already passed on as to how it should be done. Let private organizers keep us informed about their programmes. We have made single window system for the same. We also urge people, while taking cash of Rs 50,000 to 10 lac carry the relevant documents, which will be checked by the authorities.  If the documents are found to be proper, then there is no issue. In case, if the authority feels that the cash found belongs to any candidate or party, then the same will be seized.” he informed.

When asked about MLC Ivan D’Souza demanding action against MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for violating model code of conduct, Sasikanth Senthil said, "We will review the tweet and soon come out with a decision.” 

Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Prasad, DCP Hanumantharaya, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Selvamani and others were present.
