Udupi: 17-yr-old girl allegedly raped and murdered in Manipal

Udupi, Mar 10: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered near Sagri in Manipal on Sunday, March 10.

The incident came to light when a woman found the victim near the railway tracks. The woman found the victim half-naked and it is suspected that the victim might have been murdered after sexual assault.

Meanwhile, additional SP Kumar Chandra and Manipal police visited the spot.

There was some confusion regarding the victim's age earlier and she was reported to be 30-year-old.

Further investigation is underway.

So sad. Why the women are not safe in our country? The punishment for rape crimes we have now is not enough the deter the rapists and murderers. Such cases should be handled by fasttrack courts and the punishment should be meted out instantly.

@Jossey S.Mumbai,need not be North Indians .There are enough locals of criminals and murderers in south too .Only have to findout first who was it and punish him .Afterall a rapist and murderer should be allowed to roam about.It is disguesting to hear everyday and sad too to know girls arent yet secure in mangalore.
