In a first, India to attend OIC meeting

New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS): India, for the first time, will attend a the meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as "guest of honour" with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj invited to address the inaugural plenary of its council of ministers meeting next month.

Sushma Swaraj has been invited by United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to address the inaugural plenary of the 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers slated to take place in Abu Dhabi on March 1-2.

The External Affairs Ministry said in a statement it was happy to accept the invitation which was a "welcome recognition" of the presence of 185 million Muslims in India and of their contribution to its pluralistic ethos, and of India's contribution to the Islamic world.

"We see this invitation as the desire of the enlightened leadership of the UAE to go beyond our rapidly growing close bilateral ties and forge a true multifaceted partnership at the multilateral and international level," the statement said.

It said the invitation was "a milestone" in the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership with the UAE.

"India is, therefore, happy to accept the invitation to attend the Inaugural Plenary of the OIC meeting and we thank the leadership of the UAE for their invitation," the statement said.

India was first invited as an official delegation at the Islamic Summit Conference in Rabat, Morocco in September 1969.

The Indian ambassador attended the first session, as he awaited the arrival of the Indian delegation. The head of the delegation, Congress leader Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed – who later became the president – arrived in Morocco to take part in the conference. However, he could not attend a single session. The invitation, extended unanimously, was rescinded on the insistence of Pakistan.

In the aftermath of the Rabat fiasco, India recalled its ambassador to Morocco. New Delhi also withdrew its Charge d’affaires from Amman “on account of Jordan’s attitude towards India’s participation” at the conference.

Every OIC meeting usually results in a slew of statements on Kashmir, with a standard rejoinder from the Indian side.

The last statement from the OIC on Kashmir was in December 2018, which described the shooting at demonstrators at Pulwama as a “terrorist attack”.

Any news without crosschecking only damages the reputation of the media. Rather than saying In a first, India to attend OIC meeting, it is after 50 Years, India Invited to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Plenary.

Please DO NOT FORGET that all of us are cut from the same cloth, whether we are Muslims, Hindus, Christians or non-denominational. Our origins are the same for thousands of years. So we are all blood brothers and sisters. Religions have driven us apart and have attempted to break us down to the core and alienated us from others by deep cleavages where they are (or until recently) forbidden to mix. There is one true God by whatever name it is worshiped...Allah, Brahma, Yahweh, Trinity ....or ....

First four sentences are really from an educated, logical thinking, rational Mr.Mohan Prabhu, Mangalore (Kankanady)/Ottawa, Canada. But the last sentence, contradicts every logical thing you have said in the first four!!!
If you believe there are different religions, you should also believe there are different Gods. A God of a religion originated in low vegetation deserts, says killing animals for food is not a sin. A God from India will say killing animals for food is a sin. Some Gods say everything is fair in war, while another says love your enemy too.
So Gods are different and can not be same.

In the recent years many in the Arab world have wondered why/how the Muslims in India and South East Asia are shockingly peaceful, while to the west of India all the way to Morocco, it is a different story.

This realisation has also made many to wonder if the pluralistic societies such as in India generate greater degree of tolerance.

It appears that some leaders in the Middle East, mainly in the UAE, want to learn lessons from India on tolerance.

In a way you are right, but if you see India has far bigger Muslim population than other countries, though in recent years they are targeted by fringe groups supported by ruling party they have not lost their cool & haven't retaliated with counter violence in those areas where they are in large numbers. It proves except a very few radicalized fringe among themselves the vast majority of them want peace & they want to prosper just like any other Indians.
We need to have a brotherly relationship with them to build a strong, prosperous united world leader which would be like a beacon from the sea.
Be a Nation that attracts all rather than a failed Afghanistan which would export terrorists to the whole world.

As per your claim they have attacked in the above areas for lynchings in other areas or fake beef meat rumors triggering minority community getting attacked in fringe majority areas?
Has any of them supported rapists like BJP did?
If answer is no then you better stop the hatred & build bridges & not attacks to polarize voters as some narrow minded people who belong to a particular org. wants?
