Mangaluru, Feb 11: Usually during elections it is common to do publicity or promotion for the political parties. However, as the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner, Dakshina Kannada district Congress has entered into the world of Twitter for the first time.

District Congress is making full use of twitter to battle with BJP and attracts young voters. AICC and KPCC had opened their twitter account long back but District Congress never showed much interest to make it a platform for publicity or to fight with BJP.

As per KPCC directions, all 224 constituencies consisting of 448 blocks have opened their twitter account and are active since couple of months to buckle up for the forthcoming elections.

During the last elections, even though the Congress had a Facebook account it was not much active. When Dinesh Gundu Rao took over the KPCC presidency, he took lot of interest towards social media to make it one of the tools for promotion. KPCC and district level convener are appointed to maintain the social media sector. So far leaders of over 150 constituencies are trained to use the social media effectively.

Target BJP

The main target in twitter for Congress is its opponent BJP. Congress is criticizing every lapses of central government on twitter. Congress is actively posting everything in twitter from BJP's election manifesto to Rafale deal referring mainly Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National BJP president Amit Shah.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com, KPCC social media state convener Nataraj Gowda said, "Twitter has the influencing factor as there are lots of youths and leaders, who are actively using twitter. In Dakshina Kannada, we need to promote twitter. We are highlighting the mistakes of BJP's administration and counter them. We are using this platform to target BJP and inform the failures of BJP and achievements of past tenure under Siddaramaiah,”

He also said, "We are actively involved in twitter. It is necessary to tell public about the failures of the central government as they never fulfilled the promises. We have twitted a few questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi such as discrimination in providing fund for natural disasters. While the state got only 40% compared to Maharashtra's 60% and many more such questions about his failures."

"There is a twitter account 'Go Back Modi', in which over five lac people have twitted from the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Through twitter we are able to reach to the masses," informed Nataraj Gowda.

A good move by the congress. My first advice to. all the congress people is first keep aside all the differences and nominate a. Capable, educated , sincere and hard working candidate. Stop the groupism between the leaders and work as a team for the benefit of the party. If we see the present political crisis created by the congress MLA’s at the state level, no one will feel like casting the vote for Congress. It was congress who called in JDS to firm a coalition government, and its a shame on you how you all behave. Forget the past and think about the future. Preference should be given to youngsters.
