Bantwal, Jan 17: A youth from the taluk reportedly tried to bag the post of assistant administrative officer in Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on the basis of a fake appointment order. He was arrested.

Ashwin Melitone Sequeira (25) was handed over by KSRTC security staff to Wilson Garden police station. During his questioning, Ashwin, an MBA degree holder, is said to have divulged that his friends from Puttur, Sairial (24) and Puneeth (25) had cheated him by providing him this fake appointment order after collecting two lac rupees from him. In view of this statement, a case against Ashwin and his two friends has been registered. Wilson Garden police also said that the case would be transferred to Puttur as the incident had happened here.

The Bengaluru police said that Puneeth was provided with fake selection letter and appointment letter by his friends. They said they have sent the accused away after serving him notice.

When Ashwin produced his appointment order at KSRTC office on January 10, the officials found defects in the format and outlay of the order. Alerted by these defects, the vigilance officer checked the bag Ashwin was carrying and found the selection letter. It transpires that Ashwin had informed his friend, Sairial, that he had applied for the post of assistant administrative officer of KSRTC. He in turn, promised to secure the job as he has people close to him in the central office of KSRTC. Sairial demanded payment of four lac rupees bribe and Ashwin paid two lac rupees by way of advance, promising to pay the balance later. Sairial, with the help of Puneeth, created a fake selection letter in the name of KSRTC by post. Ashwin believed that he was selected through genuine promise and realized that he was taken for a ride after going to KSRTC office.

KSRTC officials, in the light of this incident, asked candidates who have applied for posts to contact KSRTC officials directly without the help of any mediators.
