M'luru: Cong responsible for Vijaya Bank merger, says MP Nalin Kumar

Mangaluru, Jan 15: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has alleged that the merger of Vijaya Bank was the plan of the earlier Congress led UPA government.

Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, January 15, Kateel denied involvement of BJP and its other MPs who belong from coastal Karnataka in the merger.

“BJP has nothing to do in this issue. Congress party and Veerappa Moily is responsible for merger of Vijaya Bank. During the tenure of UPA government, Veerappa Moily was the chairman of finance committee of cabinet. The finance committee collectively passed the resolution for merger of the bank. Moily had power to suspend the decision. But he did not and instead approved the process. Hiding this fact, the Congress leaders are making noise and alleging that BJP had a role in merger. The people of the district know the facts and they won’t listen to Congress party’s fabricated story,” Kateel lashed out.

Now Vijaya Bank already merged with Bank of Baroda and we can’t revert the merger. But BJP will put all efforts to retain the name Vijaya Bank along with Bank of Baroda. The BJP MPs from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have already discussed the same with finance minister Arun Jaitley and are waiting for his positive response.

Giving a hint on the ‘upcoming fall’ of state government he said, “We already crossed the ‘Sankranthi’. It is time for good news and it will be come in shortly. The BJP leaders attended meeting of party’s national executive committee. They did not go to attend resort politics.”

Taking a dig on Congress Padayatra from Nelyadi to B.C road he said, “It is the march of defeated party and its leaders. The march is good for their health because it will reduce the fat of their body. As a MP I put my sincere efforts for the four lane road between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. But state government has not done anything for this project,” he said.

Answering the challenges posed by MLC Ivan D Souza during his hunger protest at Gandhi Park, Nalin said “It is easy to speak in front of party supporters. But he should follow what he speaks. If he has guts he should contest against me in Lok Sabha election and should defeat me.”

Jithendra Kottari and Jagadish Adhikari were present.

Sometimes, the bouncers should be left alone. Vijaya Bank merger is a bouncer, as a certain MP or MLA has very little say in the decision making of Government regarding nationalized banks.

Reducing number of banks is tantamount to increasing monopoly. However, considering the phenomenal services provided by private banks, and slower to adapt technology by nationalized banks, they will have to consolidate to have a larger customer base to effectively compete with agile fast movers in private banks.
MP Nalin is best advised if he speaks about how he has put the MP fund for his constituency to good use and also representations he has done to improve the constituency he represents. Better act with sanity regarding Vijaya Bank rather than act like a constituency desperate for attention and with identity crisis.

Try for a new name Vijaya BoB Bank. Or a brand like LG (result of Lonestar+GoldStar merger) It could be VB bank.

Probably, the MP is thinking that the BJP came to power at the Centre just yesterday. He seems to have forgotten that the BJP government had four-and-a-half years to cancel the merger. After all, general elections are fast approaching, and when there is nothing to show, slinging mud at the previous government is the last straw left for this good-for-nothing MP.

It is obvious that Nalin is not able to do one bit when dictators on top have decided to save the Gujarati Bank by merging with profit making bank from Mangalore. He can only give some excuses and blame UPA. When UPA was in power, the NPAs of Gujrati bank were not so high. The proposal could have been sensible. But now, after knowing the conditions of bankrupt banks, why is Nalin not able to stop this from happening??
No point is blaming previous Govt for every problem when you dont have the capacity to resolve the issue.

The state of Karnataka is called the “Cradle of Indian Banking”. This state had given rise to India’s seven leading banks like Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, State Bank of Mysore, Karnataka Bank, Syndicate Bank, Vysya Bank, and Vijaya Bank. These banks started their operations in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in Karnataka and in later years, further spread their operations to other parts of India. Karnataka’s contribution towards India’s national income accounts for more than 5 percent making it the state that has been ranked on top by the World Bank for its investment climate.
The Vijaya bank was established on 23 October 1931, in Mangalore with an aim to help the farmers. The bank was nationalized in the 1980s by the government. There were 361 private banks which "failed" across the country in the period from 1947 to 1955, translating to an average of over 40 banks per year. In 2008 when the world faced a financial crisis, India was relatively insulated. One important reason for this was the fact that our banks had been nationalized by Indira Gandhi in July 1969.
In the financial year 'Vijaya Bank' is the only few banks announced profits when countries major banks PNB, SBI lost $2 Billion from 'Chota Modi's daytime bank robbery under the watchful eyes of 'Chowkidar'.
If nationalized banks are failing, it is because of NPA and bank lending which crossed more than $140 billion to crony capitalist who in turn helped BJP election campaign and party funding.

MP Nalin Kumar who doesn't know the history of Indian banking sector blames Congress like school children's complaining teacher for eraser, pencil... But his party never accepted the 'Demonetisation' failure which in turn lead to a series of the collapse of the establishments.

It is not right for BJP to blame Congress for every baby born to them.

Why this MP telling lies to the people of Karnataka? The Business Today news in New Delhi on January 2, 2019 stated with headlines: Cabinet approves merger of Vijaya Bank, Dena Bank with Bank of Barod. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad says the merger will allow the combined entity under BoB more lending power. The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the merger of Vijaya Bank, Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda. Following the merger of these state-owned banks, BoB will become the third largest bank in India after the State Bank of India and HDFC Bank in terms of assets. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the merger will allow the combined entity under BoB more lending power. BoB will now have a global competitive identity, he added. The minister also said that all the employees of Dena Bank, Vijaya Bank will now automatically come under BOB. "There will be no effect on their service and working conditions," assured the minister, adding that no retrenchment will be done. The minister also added these three banks had been merged to make BoB a globally competitive financial institution.
The government in September last year had announced the merger of these three banks. It was part of the government's strategy to promote consolidation in the sector marred by loads of non-performing assets (NPAs).

CAN THE PEOPLE OF THIS STATE TRUST THIS MP WHO IS BLAMING THE CONGRESS GOVERNMENT?

Most of the people of DK are educated and I think won't believe him now. In Economic Times of Dec. 21, 2018, it was mentioned as below:
"The 'Alternative Mechanism' (AM) headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had decided to merge three banks with a view to create global size lender, which will be stronger and sustainable.
Following which, the board of directors of Bank of Baroda had given an in-principle approval for the proposed merger of the three state-owned lenders on September 29.."
