Bengaluru: Rashmika Mandanna goes underwater in Bellandur lake to spread awareness

Bengaluru, Dec 14: Actress Rashmika Mandana went underwater at Bellandur lake for a social cause. She participated in underwater photo-shoot there to spread awareness about callousness of the people towards water pollution and the need to reverse the situation towards improving the water quality there.

Rashmika deserves to be lauded for her efforts because in our country, air and water pollution often go unregulated either because of laws that are not stringent enough or because high and mighty are involved. In most cases, people in positions of power wake up only after the situation goes out of control.

Poor quality of air and water often give rise to health hazards. Although the pitiable condition of Bellandur lake that gives out froth often has attracted the attention of the government and National Green Tribunal, nothing much has changed till now as far as water quality of the lake is concerned.

The photo-shoot involving Rashmika Mandanna was directed by Sanmati D Prasad. In her tweet, the actress confessed that she did not have any inkling about the gravity of the pollution situation till she personally experienced it. She has requested her fans and followers to help in reversing the situation. The team involved with the photo-shoot hopes to raise awareness about the need to improve the quality of water in the lake.

It may be recalled that the lake, besides sending out clouds of froth, also had caught fire a couple of times. Only time will tell whether the actress and her team will succeed in improving the condition of the lake where others have failed.

In the city of Bangalore lakes are once the lifeline of water resources domestic use and agriculture. Today over the growing city it has become a dumping yard for manufacturing industries as well as land grabbing real estates.
Though China is more populated than India, the state is giving more emphasizes on water bodies. The rapid growth has affected their natural resources but quick thinking of government has given new lease of life.
The city with the highest MP, MLA, and councilors from BJP has completed neglected them.
I appreciate Actress Rshmika Mandanna and her team for this initiative. Unless the citizens of the city come together it is difficult to revive the lost glory.
